With all of the talk about the "newer" baits like swimbaits, jerkbaits, etc ....... I was wondering if anyone still uses plain old grubs on a jighead anymore?

We caught a ton of fish over the years with that simple bait.

I use them all the time. I have great success with 4-5" grubs. I mainly fish ponds though.

Mann's Stingray grub , great for schooling bass and crappie .
Another thing I just started doing recently , take a 2.75" or 3.5" Tube , use a wide gap weighted insert head ( smaller is best , 1/16oz or 1/8oz ) , then take the tail end of a floating worm , about 2" or 2.5" , then insert half of the way into the tube and use Mend it to glue the butt ends together . If done correctly , you will have a small sealed airpocket in the tube and a floating tail ---- these combined will give the tube a slower , darting fall than usual tube presentations .
tight lines for sure !!!

Zoom's Fat Albert Twin Tails make excellent trailers for bladed jigs.

I still do some on clear highland lakes, not so much on lakes around the metromess (some on PK if bite is tough)

Mister Twister Twin Tail grubs also and they won't rust the hook like a Zoom or Yamamoto

We always used Fat Alberts on a 3/16 or 1/4 round head. Great smallmouth baits in the TN lakes.

Use them a lot after cold fronts and in small ponds. Bass inhale then.

I was just thinking the same thing the other day. Wouldn't the old sting ray grub be similar to our modern day ned rig. A place I worked for when i was younger had a stingrays grub imitation in rootbeer gold flake, avocado gold flake and avocado red flake . I sure wish I still had some of those now days.
