this is a current thread on Bass Boat Central and has several comments from guys who have had problems with progressive and Geico....got a close friend who went through something similar with Progressive and he had to get an attorney to threaten a lawsuit to make them pay a legitimate claim...had similar situation with Allstate....
hate to post something like this but maybe if enough of us refuse to buy insurance from them, they will start treating policy holders fairly...

Bear, I can see this. They can’t approve every claim. Believe me, I think we all now someone that has turned in a mechanical issue as an insurance claim. Every once in a while a guy is going to get the chorizo.

Progressive is by far the best claim service I’ve ever experienced... I had a total loss and 3 lower unit claims in a 5 year period. All were approved within a 3 days of the shop submitting the repair quote. The vanishing deductible is a nice feature too. Lots of underhanded stuff goes down with people trying to make issues fit into an insurance claim.

so, If you have insurance on your boat and your motor has a mechanical issue that will cost $1,000.00. Your deductible is $250.00. You aren't supposed to file a claim for a mechanical issue?

No, its not an engine warranty. It's for if you are involved in an accident.

something I wish I had learned years ago was to buy my insurance from an independent agent who won't tolerate an insurance company that does not pay legitimate claims promptly.....I had home, boat and car insurance with Allstate for years, had two small and legitimate claims and to get an attorney to write a letter threatening suit both times to get them to pay...slow learner but the second time,I took my insurance elsewhere and no problems even when I had substantial damage from hurricane last year....(anybody who loves pine trees never had one fall on their house)….

I hate pine trees and no insurance is not a mechanical warrant.

After divorce I switched ex over to her own policy with Progressive. She had an accident in my car that I was in the process of transferring to my daughter who would then transfer to ex. She was hit by an illegal immigrant with no DL or insurance. What a mess. Police report had the cars on the wrong streets so it looked like ex was at fault. Progressive recreated the accident and determined that the report was wrong. They totalled the car and paid my daughter under uninsured motorist. I thought then they were a good company until the lawsuit came. They had told me that the people would probably sue but not to worry because they have our backs. The passenger sued for $100-$200k. Lawyer sucked daughter and myself in claiming ex was an unsafe driver. Total BS. Progressive now says we can't defend you. The lawyer eventually figured out they had no case against myself and daughter so they dropped us from suit. Quite a mess. Goes to court in 2 weeks. 2-1/2 years after wreck.

Same here. Unfortunately I have had several claims tgrough boat insurance through Progessive. They have been northing short of excellent. Very fast, more than fair and great customer service. Their local adjustors are reasonable, friendly and punctual. Very fair to deal with. They talk to you each step of the way and explain their opinions very well. Not one single complaint here. I switched to a different carrier when I bought new boat as my dumb butt wanted to save a few dollars. As soon as policy is about over I will be going back to Progressive. Just trying to pay the new company has been a pain, trying to get the right coveragecetc has sucked. Never again.

I hate dealing with progressive. I use USAA...but they have Progressive underwrite their boat insurance.
