My wife's cousin rented a cabin at Beavers Bend for the the holiday weekend and we were invited to come along with the crew. My wife said it would be ok if i snuck out and did some fishing (her family knows i do that sort of thing) and that's what i did Saturday afternoon. It rained that morning but after a big lunch of leftover ham and dressing - i could't do another round of turkey - the sun came out and it got almost hot. So i slipped out and hit the river. With the sun out it after two days of rain it was crowded. Most of the popular pools were loaded so i hit a spot were there is a lot of fast running water over shallow areas. The kind of places most bait fisherman stay away from because they get hung up constantly. I haven't fished The Mountain Fork in a long while so i felt like i was kind of out of the loop a little as far as what is going on there. I didn't have a lot of time so i just tied on a bead head wooly booger and hoped to just catch something. Turns out i got lucky and some fish were ready to play. Nothing big but i didn't care. Just something to pull on the end of my little four weight cane rod. Since i lucked out and got into fish quickly it also gave me some time to pull my Nikon out of my pack and play around with some photos. After a celebratory cigar i drove back to the cabin, eased into a leather recliner in front of the fireplace and thought about how thankful i am for little, gullible trout and small cane poles.

Love some 'boo rods and cigars; sounds like it was a real good time. On another note had no idea they stocked browns in there.

I know I’ve been a stranger around here recently. Been really tied up enjoyed the pics you sent bud. Looks like a great trip for all involved. Hopefully at some point I’ll get a free hour or two to put in some of my normal contributions. I don’t need to long to get some epic shots in. Are you doing any video work on this one Capt?

Good to have you back Robert! No sir, no video. Didn't have enough time and i just wanted to relax catch a fish or two if i could. Besides that, i have two carp fishing videos, a redfish and a Belize video I'm working on. Probably should finish editing at least a couple of those before i start a new project. Hope you and i can hook up and go after some sand bass this spring.

Tell me about that bamboo fly rod and that great-looking reel on it... please?

Its a 7' four weight Santium from Headwaters Bamboo Rod Co. I got it thirteen years ago and at that time they offered the reel as a package. I don't if they still do that or not.

Very nice. I love me some split cane flyrods! I was in Roscoe, New York for a couple of months several years back, and I met Ron Kusse. He made reels like that. I may have to get me one and start using my cane rods.

Glad to see some of us are still fishing. I’ve not made a reasonable effort to do what I love as of late. Glad you shared your trip.
