We are thinking about talking a Fri-Sun mini-vacation the weekend of December 13th or 20th. Anyone have any recommendations for a fishing trip within Texas within about a 250 mile radius of NW Houston? Do any of the online power plant lakes north of Houston have any decent lodging?

I personally always enjoyed driving Highway 35 from Corpus to Galveston, you could do it in reverse. My buddies and I would make it a 3 day drive and fish hard all 3 days whether it was pier hopping at night or wade fishing during the day. Typically we would do it during Thanksgiving break,.

Pirkey (Brandy Branch) near Marshall has hotels within 10 miles and Longview is about 22 miles but stay on the northeast side of town. Martin Creek State Park (800-792-1112) has a few cabins that have central air and heat or you could go to Longview (26 miles and 1 hour) or there is 1 hotel in Tatum Tx that is 8 miles or 10 minutes away (Belmont Inn and Suites Tatum by Magnuson Worldwide).

Going to Big Sam in February with BIL. Good luck on your fishing trip. Just so you know, Big Sam in not a hot water lake.
