We are blessed to live here. Nice to see so many different lakes named, especially White Rock.

One of the Dallas/Fort Worth ponds stocked with winter trout and a population of Florida strain or Monticello if they open it back up. There are some giants in there along with giant gizzard shad.

More likely to catch a bigfoot in Texas than an 18.

Not unless its from a new lake or Falcon floods and stays flooded for 10 years.

I just don't believe that we will ever see, in any lake, a fish surpass the 18+ lb mark, or at least in my lifetime.

To my knowledge the largest fish caught in the state this year was Zach Sypert's 14.57. Anyone know of a larger fish caught? First year in a while that someone hasn't cracked 15. There hasn't been a fish over 16.5 caught in almost 25 years.

Story of Zach's fish: https://www.lunkerlore.com/single-post/2019/01/30/Untitled

Ivie is a good bet if it can keep water, which is doubtful.

PK if we could get the state to quit putting in stripers and start stocking brown trout!

Great interview Josh. Marine Creek could kick out another giant any day. They stocked SAL fingerlings in it multiple times over the years.

Too far south in my humble opinion. It just gets too hot down there which jacks up their metabolic rate. That does two things, 1, it makes it hard to gain weight, and 2 shortens their life spans. They live fast and die young. Don't get me wrong, I bet Gary get's some giants out of Jalisco, probably some fish that push 16 lbs but I just don't see 18 lbs. I think all hope is basically lost at La Perla. Gary introduced northern strain genetics to make his fish more catchable. What he didn't realize at the time was that those genes are dominate. The fish in La Perla will actually get smaller over time unless he drains the lake and starts from scratch.

In a perfect world you'd have a lake that stayed between 60-75 degrees year round that was stocked with all female bass of the best genetics and full to the brim with prawn, shad, and trout. Add about 10-12 years onto that recipe plus the willpower to avoid fishing it with any regularity and you'd have a good chance.

I thought he signed some kind of contract with TPWD saying that he couldn’t fish the lake for a certain number of years?

No way, they are crazy. Might be great for dink numbers because of the dropping water. Might be a few decent fish come out, but number 1 in the nation is ridiculous.
