We decided to try for some crappie on thanksgiving. It was a beautiful day and we were the only ones on the river. All fish caught were in 25fow sitting on the bottom. We ended up catching 7 nice crappie

It was a wonderful thanksgiving


Side note: Chuck do you know what the growths on the rio are? It's pretty common as I've caught others with the same thing

Nice fish Leo and Yesenia. Your baits are nailing em. Good job. The rash on the Rio is very common for them to get. It can range form Allergy conditions to wounds they get while guarding nest from other fish.

Thanks Chuck for the reply! I can see them getting a rash from guarding the nest. Nervous hives from constantly chasing away all those relentless little gills

Rios are usually found in Bluegill waters in the warmer climate areas .They take away a lot of nesting space for a lot of the sunfish including the Bluegill. For what I have read the Allergies are the major cause of the rash with the protecting of the nest a distant second.

All year long you and Pot Licker have been catching em. It's great having places you can go where you know their patterns. Awesome post and fish.

Thanks Laker One for your reply! PL and I have had a great year so far. The places we fish have clear water and i think it makes it a little easier patterning the fish when you can see them cast to them and watch their reaction to your bait.

Nice rio. Those guys also fight a lot amongst themselves just like most cichlids. Their teeth easily take off a few scales and nick the skin when they nip each other; that opens up the area to local fungal or bacterial infection.
