From the low water dam at beach street in Fort Worth to the Loop 12 bridge I have seen more big carp than anywhere in the state. Especially near where the old Wax museum used to be, Where Rush/village creeks enter the river and just east of 360. Also near where Fielder dead ends in Arlington and where Davis does the same thing.

I lived in Arlington and carp fished a lot. Bank access (too steep) is a serious issue in the areas I checked on in Arlington. I would have loved to have found a good spot on the Trinity. Fished it once in Ft. Worth. I would not go there by myself if you know what I mean. Besides, I found plenty in Lake Arlington.

I brought this up because yesterday I saw a 30 pounder across from River Legacy park. Actually you can access the river nicely by going east from Collins. You can legally carry while fishing in Texas if you are afraid of the homeless.

"You can legally carry while fishing in Texas if you are afraid of the homeless."

My personal policy is why take a chance when there are plenty of other places. Thanks for the info.

I've always looked at that spot to fish! Might have to make a trip there with my dad who should scare away all the baddies grin

Lol. Safety in numbers - I only weigh a buck 20 so I reckon I'm a pretty easy target with all my fancy gear if I'm by myself. Better safe than sorry!

"Why don't any of you carpers fish the Trinity?" Actually alot frequently do. In regards to Carp, It's good for quantity but not quality. I personally fish that area several times a year. Plenty of 10-20lb Carp, literally all day..anywhere along that stretch. There....are....much larger Carp there...but their numbers have to be very few. In the 20 plus years fishing it, I've only had a few fish over 20. But....wow...awesome longnose gar fishing. A few smaller Buffalo. Love the fact that you can place a live bluegill and potentially catch striper, white bass, large catfish, etc. You never know what's swimming around in there. Best time seems to always be a few days after some rain.

You're right, I NEVER bring serious gear to that stretch if I'm flying solo. One rod, small tackle box, NO GEAR in the Car and usually I leave it unlocked so if they want to check things out, they can without breaking windows. Gateway park area is the worst, you simply HAVE to be alert out there.

I grew up in Arlington.
I was always told NOT to eat any fish from the Trinity, due to severe pollution.
That was 1960's and 1970's.

Why even catch fish, game or rough, that you can't eat?

That said, has the Trinity become much cleaner over the past 2 decades, so fish can be safely eaten, if caught there?

Do you not have fun fishing? That's pretty much what we are all about. Having fun and releasing fish to catch and enjoy again. And as far as the Trinity is concerned, I would never eat anything from that river any where near the metroplex. The river is no doubt cleaner, but still too much potentially nasty run off into the river as far as I am concerned.

I rarely keep what I catch. I much prefer CPR.

100% catch and release personally. I love to catch fish but don't like to eat 'em! So it really doesn't make a difference if the fish is "no good to eat," it'll still catch just fine 2cents fish
