I’m in the process of re-carpeting the champ. I’m wanting to put protech padding down and figured from what I’ve read on other forums to just use weld wood contact cement. As for gluing the carpet to the padding I have not found a really good answer that I can feel confident in making a decision with. With that being said does anyone have any recommendations for bonding the padding to carpet. Also I will try to post pics or video on here of the process.

I used 3M spray adhesive and have had zero problems.

Nothing wrong with good ole Contact Cement. Brush it on both, let it dry and then press together

I have done three boats in the last couple of years and I have always used the birdsong adhesive to attach the pad to the boat and then contact cement to attach the carpet to the pad and where applicable the boat. All three look great and have no issues. hope this helps

Use weldwood landau top glue. Buy a cheap siphon feed paint gun from harbor freight to spray it with. Spray both parts and allow to “dry to touch”, then lay it on the padding.

By padding the front, you are basically doing it twice. A padding layer, then carpet. The padding doesn’t have to be totally edge to edge. You can easily trim it 1/2” shorter on every side. The carpet has to be pretty exact.
