I've never thrown a swimbait and I'm looking to start. Which one or two would you recommend? I'm thinking about one floater and one slow sinking. Thanks

I want to try some as well, but I don't want to spend $50 plus for a bait. Hopefully you get some good feedback

Yea he makes a good one and it’s fairly cheap price wise.

"Swimbait" is a pretty general term. It encompasses 2in paddletails all the way up to 10oz glide baits. Beware. The swimbait world is vast and expensive. You can and people do devote their entire fishing life to throwing swimbaits exclusively.

My advice is to start small. Maybe Megabass Spark Shad or Magdrafts. These can be thrown on a regular heavy action rod without the need for any Swimbait specific gear. From there you can graduate to larger baits such as Huddlestons or BullShad. Checkout the NFC swimbait blank lineup when you get to that point. Great rods. They have sales all the time.

I’d start with smaller/lighter/cheaper swimbaits that you can throw all day on lighter gear and catch numbers.

Spro BBZ-1 4” floater
Huddleston Deluxe weedless shad 4”

MS Slammer for the floater/wake bait. And a Mattlures hardgill slow sinker. Or a Deps Bullshooter glidebait. All can be found for $50 or below on the ebays or at www.swimbaitunderground.com

The Savage Gear 3D Shine Glide has been a consistent producer for me. Depending on which size you order, they are $19 - $25 at TW (even less with the Black Friday Sale). I would also look at the River 2 Sea S-waver 168 in Light Trout. It gets smashed. And I throw it where there has never been a trout - it just works. It's less than $20 also.

Another good wakebait is the spro rat. Don’t overlook storm wildeye shad either. The 5” and larger have caught me a lot of bass over the years even though they’re inexpensive and not considered “designer” baits. Fish don’t care. I have a couple of savage gear shineglides and line-thru roach ad trout but haven’t had much chance to throw them. Others have had great results though and as mentioned, they won’t break the bank.

Another vote for Mark Perry’s swimbaits, they’ve been great. Also a big fan of 3:16 Swimbaits.

I like the Tsunami Holographic shad swimbaits...good quality hook & not all that expensive...have caught a lot of bass on this guy...I prefer the 2" one...

You guys that mentioned Mark Perry swimbaits. Are you referring to Megabass? Or is there another link available?
