So.. my godson Dustin and I are fishing a JCO event on Fork one Feb morning and we start way back in Glade. We are catching them on lipless rattling baits right & left. Good ones too, perfect Unders. I open the livewell on my Bullet and we start throwing them in there. We are catching them so fast I tell Dustin to keep throwing them in. I knew the state law was that we could have 5 fish per person. blush

After about an hour we had ten fish in the box. So I tell Dustin to keep fishing. I go back there and open the livewell. I get my culling balance beam and start culling the fish. I get down to the “Five” heaviest fish in the well and we go back to fishing. fish

Later in the day we cull once more and I think we have about 11 pounds in the box and I am feeling pretty good. At 2:30 we go to the dock at Minnow Bucket and give Diane our poker chip to check in. We tie off the boat and Dustin grabs a bag. I open the box and start throwing them in the bag. I get five in the bag and there’s one more swimming. hmmm

The livewell on a Bullet is deep & black (or it used to be). It is very hard to glance in there and see how many fish you have. So I tell Dustin ‘no worries’ we’ll just cull through and release one. thumb

So about 70 others boats are coming into check in as we are tied up at the dock. I get the balance beam out and I start comparing fish again. We determine which one to release and its all good. I tell Dustin to go get in line for weigh in. I go load the boat on the trailer.

I come back to the crowd under the pavilion at MB and find Dustin. He comes out of the polygraph trailer and gives me the Thumbs Up! We are about to win the event with the largest bag of Unders (11.97) ever weighed in a Lake Fork event at the time. cheers

So we are being congratulated and talking to folks at the weigh in. Mark Howard comes over to me and pulls me aside. He says, “Ken, someone has protested you for culling at the dock”. I tell him yes we did and that earlier we had 10 fish in the box. He tells me the rules state that no team shall have more than Five fish in the boat at any time. So he gives me the option of withdrawing our catch or being DQ’d. Of course, we withdraw our catch and take a big fat ZERO in an event we had just won. crying

Word spreads pretty fast around the lake community down there. I used to keep my boat at LFM so by the time we get there to drop it off we run into Cameron and he says, "What's up Sixfish?" bang

Well Ken I did something as embarrassing, it was time to head in to weigh in, we had 21 pounds in the well, before we took off for about a 10 minute run I switched the wells to recirculate ( I thought I did ) get to the weigh in and I open the lid to wells to get fish , oh [censored], bone dry, I hit pump out instead of recirculate, it was June and needless to say we had 21 pounds of dead fish, got second in tourney and had a fish fry that night, never live that one down
