Fished Greer's Ferry North of Conway Arkansas many times. I almost forgot what a LMB felt like after I caught my first SMB. They are a blast to catch to say the least. A 2 lbr will pull like a mule. My biggest was a little over 3. Can't imagine what a 6+ feels like.

Yes, nothing more exciting than dragging a 3# Greenie across the top of weeds with 65# braid.See it every week on TV!

Biggest I've ever caught was 6 lbs 2 ounces.

Had a tournament on the Columbia river back in the '80s where my buddy and I weighed a 10 fish bag that weighed 36 lbs 2 ounces. That was with 4 fish over 16" and the rest RIGHT at 16". That was state law at the time. We were culling fish all day with a balance beam.

Next day, same spot during the tournament we managed 10 fish for 34 lbs 12 ounces.

Biggest smallie caught during those two days was 7 lbs on the nose.

There are some HUGE smallmouth on the Columbia river. There was a fish over 11 lbs taken in the Indian nets below Priest Rapids dam.

Best day of smallie fishing I ever had was up in the Hanford Reach area of the river. We ran up in a jet sled anchored up, jumped out and took our float tubes into a slough that had been cut off when the river dropped. This slough was on the Hanford side of the river and normally one would not be allowed to fish there but we were fishing with the WDFW doing a survey. It was a day filled with smallies over 4 lbs. I caught my 6.02 that day and numerous fish over 5 lbs.

Got one on Canyon that was a little over 5lbs. The lake record is 6.1 so I consider that a trophy for that lake.

I would definitely consider any smallie over 6 pounds a Trophy but have you guys seen the Texas Top 50 smallies?? There are 12 Over 7 pounds!!

Ron Gardner's name is on that list 12 times. Has anyone seen any sign of him in the last 20 years? I used to see him at the Dallas Boat Show but not in a long time.

For me it's 6 lbs. They are very rare fish however. I've probably caught hundreds of smallies over 5 lbs, however, my personal best stands at 5.86 lbs. I've had buddies catch 6's out of my boat, it's just not happened for me. Something about the 6 lb mark where the fish just get exponentially rare.
