Still tweaking this but tonight’s test run proved sufficient for addition to the rotation. Pecan nut crust was divine and next time I make it, I’m adding about a teaspoon of cinnamon to the bottom layer.

Idea edit: abuelita cinnamon chocolate syrup on top. Cinnamon chips in the topping.

German chocolate pie.
* FILLING:
* 4 ounces German sweet chocolate, chopped
* 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
* 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
* 4 large egg yolks
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1 cup chopped pecans
* TOPPING:
* 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
* 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
* 1/4 cup butter
* 2 large egg yolks
* 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/4 cup chopped pecans

* In a double boiler melt chocolates in a large bowl; stir until smooth. Cool slightly. Whisk in the sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, and vanilla; stir in pecans. Pour into crust. Bake 16-19 minutes or until set.

* Meanwhile, in a small heavy saucepan, combine brown sugar, cream and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat.
In a small bowl, whisk a small amount of hot mixture into egg yolks; return all to pan, whisking constantly. Cook 2-3 minutes or until mixture thickens while stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in coconut and vanilla; cool 10 minutes.
 Pour over filling; sprinkle with pecans. Refrigerate 4 hours or until cold.

Is this an original creation of yours? It will definitely be in rotation here. I love German chocolate cake. It’s the only cake I will eat. The pie fits right in.

I had a German Chocolate pie, for the first time Thanksgiving. I'd never even heard of it. Very good, rich as heck and it didn't have the whip cream topping. The lady said it was and old recipe that she had for many years. i didn't ask for it and I thank you for posting yours.

Nope. A friend of mine tagged me with it and said I needed to show them how it's done. It is very very good and very rich, but the chocolate filling needs some love. It's too dense and the texture needs help. I want it more silky on the tongue and the extra cup of pecans in the bottom layer almost seems like too much. I would like to toast the pecans first, and then I'm going to beat the heck out of the chocolate filling to see if I can create a smoother mouth feel.

I'm going to give this a shot. Can you give me/us some guidance about the crust? You mentioned a pecan nut. I'm not much of a baker and I've never been very good with pie crusts.

2 cups walnuts or pecans
1/2 stick melted butter
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Pulse in the food processor until uniform.
Press into your pan like a crumb crust
Bake 375 until light brown ... 10 - 15 minutes
