I saw it posted a new law was passed. It's a federal law to hurt an animal. Theres a lot more but honestly, I'm not reading it all. From the sounds of it though, this could open the door for law suits against anything PETA doesn't like, as in fishing.

Read the law, it is no big deal, it extends a law against Crushing videos to the Crushing act itself when engaged in Interstate Commerce. It isn't a law against hurting animals, and it is clear as day that routine hunting, fishing, slaughter for food, etc are exempt:

โ€œ(1) IN GENERAL.โ€”This section does not apply with regard to any conduct, or a visual depiction of that conduct, that isโ€”
โ€œ(A) a customary and normal veterinary, agricultural husbandry, or other animal management practice;
โ€œ(B) the slaughter of animals for food;
โ€œ(C) hunting, trapping, fishing, a sporting activity not otherwise prohibited by Federal law, predator control, or pest control;
โ€œ(D) medical or scientific research;
โ€œ(E) necessary to protect the life or property of a person; or
โ€œ(F) performed as part of euthanizing an animal.

Good. Sick freaks that start by torturing animals often become serial killers.

That's why if I'm keeping fish, once they come out of the live well I whack them on the head before filleting them. Lights out.

Also, we need to remember two other things:

1. Every fish out there is a murder machine. It's consumed thousands of other fish, usually alive and whole. Those fish obviously have a nasty ending in the gullet of the larger fish. Everything on this planet has to kill to live. We all have blood on our hands. I try to minimize suffering wherever I can, but I don't put my head in the sand about the reality of things either.
2. Fish do not have the same nervous system that more complex animals do. 38 degree water would be extremely painful for a human, but a fish couldn't be happier. I truly do not think a hook to the mouth of a fish causes it much if any pain.

I've never had one complain.

Biden famously said in the New York Observer, โ€œI mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, thatโ€™s a storybook, man.โ€
