I am selling my boat and have had quite a few scammers reach out. Sad people out there. Anyone else have scammers try to get their boat?

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

Yes, they will also post boats for sale and try to trick you into putting down a deposit so they can steal it. Definitely need to be careful when buying and selling anything of higher value online. Typically the scammers will not speak with you over the phone or will try avoid it. They try to do everything from their internet cafe in a foreign country via email or messenger only. Many of them are in foreign countries. Pay attention to the email time stamps because a lot of their messages will come at odd, middle-of-the-night hours.

Add E-Bay and BoatTrader to that list as well

You can list your boat for free on southeasttexas.com...… I live 2 hours east of Houston and have used the site for the past 15 years to buy and sell all kinds of stuff from the lakes area to Houston. Never had any issues with buyers or sellers. My son in law purchased a used boat in Houston off the site as well. The key was speaking on the phone with a person and also meeting face to face to look at item. Good policy to always have someone with you when buying or selling for safety. Also not a bad idea to meet at a public place if possible. Good Luck!

Yeah they'll try to scam you out of a lot less than a boat.

This is a great vid of a guy who scams the phone scammers and pretends to be a little old lady.

Yeah it was from boattrader. I have an subscription to Spokeo and it does a thorough search for the history of phone numbers to ID legitimate numbers and every number so far has been disposable phones from New York or New Jersey.

Scamming the scammers. If I had more time, I would do this more. I've done it several times in the past but don't have the patience to go on for hours. I usually let it last about 20 minutes then let them know they're not getting the money. :-) Everyone should do this more often and we might put a dent in the scammer population.

They are also scamming with 4 wheelers. They post a picture of a nice one at a cheap price. I saw one that had a snow plow on the front. They post an email address and phone number. The number is not in Texas. You call the number it goes to voice mail then you get a text back saying the 4 wheeler will be shipped to you from an ebay storage place in Kentucky. You will pay ebay so it's safe. The text is from a woman who for some reason has just moved from the area( never says what area ) and must sell quick. Ebay has no storage places and you can't pay ebay. There is no telling how many people have fallen for this. Every time I see one of their ads on Craigslist I flag it.

Even weeks after I had sold my boat I had callers/emails. It sucks but is just part of the world we live in now unfortunately.

Love to string these guys along. sometimes I let them " work me for a few days"
Often, I tell them I am in the area and can swing by to take a look, got cash...
Never hear back.
