If you use braided line for crappie fishing with spinning gear, I would like to check and see what kind you are using— brand, strength, color?

I have several brands of braid that needs to be replaced, from 10 to 30 pound strength, from moss green to high viz yellow. Some was expensive, eight strand slick, and some original power pro and other brands, that were less expensive. Some of it has a coating that makes it stiff, that does not come off the reel smoothly. In other words, I have a conglomerated mess that I need to throw away and start over.

So, I’m just wondering what some of you serious crappie fisherman use, especially for deep vertices jigging. All replies will be appreciated. Helps to learn from others.

I use 20 lb Power Pro on all my rods except dock shooters. No real reason on the brand. Most all of mine is just the moss green color. I did pick up a spool of the Hi-vis yellow the other day at Cabelas. Crappie did not seem to care which color I dropped down there. I don't care much for the "coated" braids.

The best casting superline is not braided. It is not as durable as braids, or fused like Fireline, or coated like Stealth.

I use Suffix 832 , hi vis green. 20 lb ( with 8 fluorocarbon leader most of the time.)

Yes except for the no stretch. It will outcast any of the other superlines. I use it for finesse presentations like wacky rigging, Ned rig, drop-shot, and shakey head.
When it wears, all the fibers separate and it's like a gossamer spider sail when it is slack. It's a bitch tie a knot with it in the wind when it gets that way.
I use the 24# for small bass waters with very little cover and use the 40# for every place else. I would not use any #test less than those.
It is similar in breaking strength-to-diameter as Daiwa Samuari. Not under rated like Power Pro and similar types.

Wayne, the thing you mentioned about the fibers separating when it wears sounds like a deal killer to me. But, unlike your situation, I do not have a need to make long casts, because most of my crappie fishing is vertical.

The primary things I need in a line are (1) being smooth, without a coating coating that keeps it from peeling off the reel when I drop light jigs, (2) reasonably abrasion resistant since my line rubs across cables and dock structures, and (3) that holds up without the strands separating for a reasonable period of time (braid is too expensive to constantly be replacing).

I have a high vis yellow slick, 15 lb., on one reel that has performed well. It is either the Suffix 832, a or Power Pro slick eight strand line, I think. Wish my memory was good enough to remember.

Braid floats so not the best option for deep vertical jigging. Lightweight mono much better option.

It really is a personal preference. I can't stand braid in any form so I use high vis mono for everything and have no problems.

20 lb yellow Kastking braid. a little pricey but lasts a long time!
