Yesterday was a great day to be fishing CC, light wind at 7am, and hot coffee. My notes from 2018, told me Long Ridge West and Key Ranch Drop Off would be my starting spots . Also I wanted to try Dead Sticking, 1st stop : Long Ridge, west , 20 Fow, Thumper running , less than 5 minutes and the locator was loaded with fish. When the fish would stop biting I would move over 5 or 10 feet and start catching fish . Sitting in 20 Fow , Casting to the drop, Mepps #4 , slow retrieve along the bottom, 2 or 3 cranks, of the reel handle , start and stop , always letting the Mepps #4 fall to the bottom. Once the bait got closer to the boat, almost vertical. I would get a bite. Also the 1/2 ounce tail spinner , shad color, yielded several sand bass. 2nd Stop : Key Ranch Drop Off , running the Lowrance SI across the drop , was showing some fish on the drop. 20 Fow, I turned on the Thumper , and once more the locator was loaded with fish. The Mepps #4 seem to produce the majority of my fish for this day. Also the tail spinner worked great at this spot. 3rd Spot , Dead Sticking, Any Creek Channels with balls of shad, I found some 50 Fow , I dropped my chartreuse fluke down to about 25Fow, with the Thumper running, nice sand bass, I moved around and found three small schools of bait, The bite was slow , however I just wanted to see if I could catch some fish Dead Sticking . I really believe the water needs to cool down a little more , from everything I have read, Anyway, it was a different
way of catching fish for me. I like trying different things when I go fishing , I like having a plan and doing some home work before I go fishing . The Thumper is just another tool , that seems to work for me . My main tool is my Lowrance Side Imaging and 2 D sonar. If I can't see fish on the electronics, I move to another spot, great day, over 40 sand bass , 5 legal hybrids, left them biting . Another great day on CC !!!!!
