Wife wants a detached office in backyard. In preferred location, we can fit 18x12 ish. My question is โ€œ at what point is this structure taxable(property)?

Heated and cooled?Central Air vs window unit, ??
Plumbed?
When county says so?

I have reviewed restrictions and city codes. Looks like 5 foot limit from side and rear property lines. I donโ€™t want to be taxed.

as I understand it in Tx. if it is not a permanent structure it is not taxed.

leave it on skids or even a cinder block or 2, go ahead and plumb/electric etc. and it should not matter.

I have no clue if that is accurate, heard some friends talking about it.

Tax assessors monitor building and demolition permit applications to find changes affecting home values.

Built a 16x32 Barn shed and had it converted to a studio apt. Upstairs/downstairs etc... I tapped my water line from the well, hires electrician to bury wires and install boxes. Kids live there on the property.
It sits on a few cinder blocks for leveling, so not a permanent structure. Taxes not affected here.

Rectangular structure. 200SF or so. Would 24 inch be fine on the studs or need 16? Not opposed to spending extra, but I'm thinking of saving a little loot for another perk down the road.

In Texas it IS taxed. I have an 8' X 12' Storage building that is taxed, and a 6' X 6' fish cleaning shed that is taxed. Basically if it is in Texas it is taxable.

I don't think they will tax it individually, but it will probably increase the appraised value of your house.

LOL. It is a 6 x 6 metal building on concrete slab. It is valued at $678.
