Not saying this is your problem, but when mine would stick like that and stay on, it turned out my armature was bad.

slim 285, yes; if your ultrex is like mine there is a simple solution. remove your toe switch pad- no tools required. no need to remove the pedal assembly- leave screwed down in your boat. the toe switch pad is retained by a moulded tab that hooks/snaps into the big pedal. look close under there and you will see how it is retained in the recess. unhook the toe pad and it will swing up and can be removed. don't loose the small spring under the toe switch pad. on the bottom of the toe pad you will see a small, wired button that is press-fit into the toe pad. this button is a tiny magnet that operates a micro switch (relay switch) to turn the motor off and on. this little button magnet slides inside it's holder. you can adjust the button's location by sliding it inside it's fitting- thereby changing the distance between the button's face and the micro-switch. when the toe pad is depressed, if the button magnet is too far away from the micro switch it will not turn on the motor. if it is too close, the motor will stay turned on (this sounds like your problem). it has to be just right. be careful because the parts are kind of delicate. you will need your trolling motor deployed so you can experiment to get it correct. it was helpful for me to put a tiny scribe mark on the magnet/button for reference so I could tell how much I was moving it.
This process is harder to describe than to perform. It is extremely easy once you see and understand how it works. Hope that helps.

I thought you were talking about the power 'on/off' switch. Which switch are you having trouble with Slim?

Ive done it as you said, it is tiny and the adj is very small to make a change. Its very easy anyone should be able to do it, the ^^^ is long making it seem scary, but all you really need to know is "pull it out the top of the pedal and slide the magnet up or down a little bit at a time, AND dont lose the tiny spring."

It's gravy.. Actual switch is an 1/8th inch diameter cylinder inside a friction tube. Two small and delicate wires go into the bottom of it.. Take a pointy object like an awl or pocket knife and slide switch up about 1/16 of an inch.. adjust more or less as needed..
You can do it..

My Ultrex button was sticking and I took it back to where I bought it and they took the plastic top off and sprayed wd-40 on it and it has been working fine so far.

Maybe somebody should do a UTube on this-sounds way more complicated than it probably is.
