I got spanked for posting bowfishing topics on this thread. I'm gonna try to open a new discussion on the open freshwater thread. Thanks for your polite reply

[quote=TXMulti-Species]It's a touchy subject here because this is primarily a Carp fishing section, and Carp fishermen go above and beyond to care for their catches. We use knotless nets to prevent scales from coming off or fins being torn, mats or cradles to lay the fish in to prevent damage from the fish dropping/flopping, keep the fish wet at all times and even use antibacterial spray to heal the fish's mouth or any other damage on the fish. Going through all that effort you can imagine why we're so opposed to others that kill the fish for fun.
Oh well excuse me. I thought the "carp fishing" section was primarily for carp fishing. I had no idea that the open freshwater area was primarily for carp fishermen. Get off your high horse chief.
I rarely harvest any fish, but occasionally we keep a few to eat. But I absolutely stand behind following the law. It it's legal to harvest any fish then it's legal to harvest them. No looking down the nose...please.

This was originally posted in the Rough Fish/Carp section. It has since been moved as bowfishing topics do not belong there.

Yep, first year for the new tagging system. I can see why the state got proactive with the new limits. I just hate that bowfishermen are the only targets of the new regulation. It creates a bunch of misinformation. Thanks for the polite reply!!!

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish... Personal Best: 11.62 lbs

Not really, I just wanted to see what it feels like to bash a law abiding outdoorsman based on how you harvest fish. (I’ve been hammered on here for being pro bowfishing as well.) Good luck and I hope you get your trophy. Post up pics if you do!

there's been evidence that some bowfishermen just dump their kill in the trash or on the bank when they get back to the boat ramp.
there's a lot of less-wealthy people who fish to feed their family whether it be catfish, carp, gar, bass, bluegill, crappie, etc. so some areas are more heavily fished. i've heard arguments where some say gar are on the decline b/c of overfishing. while there are others that say there are areas which aren't overfished and have plenty of large gars, and say they have become a nuisance fish.

Seems to be, they do best in the South Texas climate. Plenty at Choke & Falcon, bad thing about Choke is it’s a 1 per day kill. It should have the same limit that Falcon has.

Yep. There is definately alot of waste. Also, i hate to see bowfishermen throw dead fish on the boat ramps. Its not good public relations for sure.

I think most of the trophy alligator gar are taken south of the DFW area. Google should provide several guides. PM's to the gar people on this forum might help. Don't sweat the nay sayers, they're the same people who cry when they walk by the cleaning station and see you filleting a bunch of black bass. Anyhow, good luck on your quest and I hope you get a 150 pounder.
Biden famously said in the New York Observer, “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

I’ve been hammered on here for being pro bowfishing as well. Just to clarify, you never got hammered for being pro bowfishing. You got hammered for not knowing what the laws are concerning wanton waste and trying to tell everyone that it's okay to dump fish as long as it's on private property. To the original poster, I think you would do best finding a guide. If you are unfamiliar with the rivers and lakes down here, it will greatly increase your chances of getting that trophy you are looking for.
