I'm going to be rewiring the center console on my boat. It is currently a mess with wires going everywhere. What is the best way to label wires so they are easy to identify later?

They make zip ties with a label you can write on with a Sharpie marker. I've used colored clothspins before...colored coded that way.

Theirs a bunch of different methods. Goggle “wire labeling methods” and select the one you feel will work best for your project.

first off, color code your new wires, red hot, black ground etc. and keep a list of what is what. label breakers as well (spray your list with some clear lacquer to make it waterproof).

take a lot of pictures of new wiring in case any get messed up later.

duct tape tabs are good, use a sharpie. you can use the little key tags and tape them to the wire,

Good luck. If it is anything like my 96 Wellcraft was, it will be a challenge. Looking underneath at mine when I installed my Helix 9 was like looking at a bowl of spaghetti.

Take your time and do it right. Make a schematic first documenting wire colors and sizes. Use fiberglass loom to construct the harness, then lay it in and connect/replace one wire at a time and test after each wire is replaced. Go slow and you’ll be fine. Vantex in Fort Worth will have everything you need.

Here’s how it’s supposed to be wired.
