What do you need a high end rod for to throw a squarebill? Need extra sensitivity to feel the bites?

Then buy what you want man! I throw a squarebill on a conquest a whole bunch of the time. Zero justification for that, but I just love that rod! The reality is a mid range glass rod will give you the best land percentages, but I've never liked the way they feel so I'm willing to sacrifice a few lost fish to throw what I'm comfortable with. Now if I lose a giant, I may change my tune!

People are going to laugh at me beacause it's a cheap rod, but I love my 7ft Lews David Fritts crankbait rod in a medium heavy for the 1/4oz to 5/8 oz size square bills. It has the perfect feel and puts just the right action on the bait. I can guarantee you will have to replace the factory tip on the rod, but it will flat catch fish.

The IMX in your OP is a good way to go, that is one of the rods I use and love it. I also use an 864 Deep Flex and love that one even more, but it doesnt fit as many applications as the 845.

I don't have the 705CBMF Glass but I have two of the DC 705CB Glass rods and love them. They make great chatterbait rods too! Don'y let the word "Glass" scare you away from these rods. They are not heavy at all. http://dobynsrods.com/rod/705cb-glass/

You'd be better served saving your money and using it for a rod that requires a few more bucks- a good flippin stick or a shakey head rod. Honestly, for squarebills and wake baits I use the 7ft Medium BP Tournament Special rods. Very reasonable and they get it done.

I use https://www.fxcustomrods.com/ rods for crank bait rods they have two lengths the 7 1" is perfect for 1.5 crank baits etc. the 7 6" is good for spinner baits and bigger cranks all kinds of stuff, very sensitive I can count rocks with my square bills, they are the first method specific rod I ever bought. Lifetime warranty 60 bucks and mail the part numbers and they send you new ones. I have a unlimited budget, these work well for me.
