I have never found a fishing report useful. Ever.

They’re catching Mahi and Cobia off the Texas city dike here recently, with an occasional Smallmouth Bass in the mix...

I believe a post recently said TP&W had contracted the fishing reports out to an out of state contractor. Saving money.

Instead of hashing this out in an off topic forum, why not send an e-mail to TP&W and tell them you expect better?

Redfish are good better on live shrimp on jigs.

Since when are redfish in Lake Fork? Doesn't anyone proof read the reports? IWe Texans do expect better than this.

to me

Bill,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. You are right, it is extremely unlikely red fish are good on live shrimp on jigs at Lake Fork. The weekly fishing report is compiled by a new vendor who just took over the contract on Sept. 1, my guess is they got their wires crossed with another location. I will forward your feedback on to the vendor and ask them to correct this.

If you have any other questions or concerns please let me know.

Check this report out.

Possum Kingdom
GOOD. Water clear; 64–67 degrees; 2.76' low. Smallmouth bass are excellent on sardine weightless or with a sliding sinker. Hybrid bass are good on sardine. Largemouth bass are good on Carolina rigs, Texas rigs, topwater and spinnerbaits near cliffs and vegetation. Crappie are good on jigs, and minnows. White bass remain good on jigs, slabs, and spoons. Striped bass are fair on live shad and jigs in the main channels of the lake. Catfish are good on cut bait, live sunfish, and stinkbait.

Would it be asking too much for TPWD to exercise a little contract management and proof read vendors reports prior to publishing?

It ain’t like the good old days is it, JP?

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

We had a team that included Mark Perry, Bink Grimes, Kendal Hemphill and I producing the reports. All of us are actually involved in fishing on the professional level (making all or part of our living in the fishing industry). These new folks don't even have an understanding of what baits and lures belong to what species, nor a comprehension of fishing vocabulary. They were awarded a contract we had for 22 years producing the reports because they were cheaper. TPWD is certainly getting what they are paying for.
