Thinking its time to upgrade to better technology. I currently have a gen 1 terrova and thinking the Ulterra is my next purchase. Also considering (down the road) upgrading my TM graph as well, but cant afford the live scope or whatever the Garmin is. Maybe 360 or just an 1197 on the dash and move the 898c SI to the front

Thoughts and opinions on reliability would be great

I absolutely love mine! While it is a first generation, it still serves me well. Tboxfish has the newest generation Ulterra and the spot lock is exponentially better than mine! You shouldn't be disappointed and they link well with HB electronics.

Love mine too. I have the gen2 with bluetooth. have it hooked to the Helix 7 up front. 24' Pontoon

Would not be without it. Makes life much easier. I have the Bluetooth version. 60 inch shaft on my 202 champion. its a beast. Two full seasons without a issue,,,

Just upgraded my gen 1 terrova to the ulterra with Link. It's been everything I had hoped for. The spot lock along with newer remote and functions are great. I do use the micro remote instead of the link remote. I leave the link remote in a cradle to where I can stow and deploy and trim but use the solix touchscreen or micro remote for everything else

I just put the Ulterra on my new 22' War Eagle: 80-pound, 60" shaft. So far, it has been perfect. The spotlock has been really good...it really does best with a little to lot of wind. Calm days are difficult with spotlock, as you would think so. Love the auto stow and deploy...no more pulling cords..

AND LOVE LAUNCHING AND LOADING THE BOAT BY MYSELF WITH THE REMOTE...so much easier and more efficient!!!

I've had mine for 9 months. Absolutely love it. Never tried the foot control. I use the remote control. Had to replace the batteries in the remote once.

The Ulterra trolling motor is a fantastic unit and for the most part trouble-free, however, I do recommend getting the quick-release mounting bracket just in case you have the need to remove the motor for any issues that may arise.

I just put one on my boat and made a huge mistake. I have a Champion 201. I bought the 45" shaft and it is too short. They don't make that motor in a 52 for some unknown reason. That would be the correct length for my boat if the water gets rough.
I replaced a worn out Motorguide 42" shaft that was plenty long enough and never came out of the water, so it never occurred to me the the 45" Ulterra was going to be shorter, not longer.

Here's the problem: The effective length of the 45" Ulterra is about 36-37" (bottom of mount to center of motor) because the deploy mechanism at the top takes up about 8" of the shaft, but Minn Kota does not tell you that. My Bad for not finding out first.

I thought 60" was going to be in the way, but now I realize it would have been fine. About a $2000 error. Only a problem if the water is rough. If the water gets rough, the prop comes out of the water. Otherwise, I love it.

A guy I fish with quite often just put one on his 1971 modified Power Cat Bull A Gator. He went from a hand controlled unit to the Ulterra. You talk about spoiled. Two weeks ago he had a couple out with him. As I rounded a corner I saw sitting in the back with his feet propped up while "locked" on a pile. I immediately called him and told him "I guess the next time I see you there will be a recliner in the back of your boat".

He loves it and there is no way he would get rid of it for all the tea in China.

I have had some customers that when they went to stow the motor they have received a paused notice on there remote and the motor stops in the middle of the stowing process. Batteries were depleted to a point that the motor will not stow. A quick-release bracket allows you to simply remove the trolling motor and get the boat back on the trailer. Charge the batteries and put the motor back on the boat and continue the stowing process.
In general, if you ever have a warranty matter you will be thankful for the quick release bracket.
Not saying you will have issues. I have customers that have not had any issues and then I have had customers that have.

Edit: so how will the holes lineup with a detachable mount when I take the terova off? And how secure is the detachable mount?
