I am going to order a new Ultrex and don't know what shaft length I should order. I have been running a Fortrex 56" shaft on my 521VX Ranger but they don't make a Ultrex in that shaft length, they only make 45,52 and a 60" and my Fortrex when lowered and adjusted according to the manual only has about 4" of lowering adjustment on it. Sometimes in rough water I've had to lower the Fortrex all the way down so that my prop stays in the water. So I am thinking that if I buy the 52" it could end up being to short and then if I buy the 60" it's overkill and way too long. I know that I can take the 60" to a Minn Kota shop and have the shaft cut to size but don't really want to spend the extra money. What should I buy?

52 will be perfect, that’s what I’m running on my BassCat and I fish a lot of offshore rough water

My friend has a 60” and it’s a lot of trolling motor when stowed, too much IMO

Having a 60" shaft is a lot to stow but I think you answered your own question. With both you and your partner on the back deck, you have had to lower your 56 all the way down there will be times the 52 will not be enough. If you like to do what I do and Spot Lock offshore in the wind with 2 or three of us on the back deck I would go with the 60 and deal with the extra length.

I have a 52" on my Skeeter zx20 and never had any issues. Allows me to fish rough water without the prop coming out too much and I can raise it a little to get into real shallow water.

52” on my cat, no issues. You get one too long and it takes up a lot of space, you get one too short and it’s no fun when the wind is blowing. I’d rather have the extra length just in case

I had 52 on my 920 phoenix it was great.

When I went lithiums I cut it to 45 and like it much better, it does work harder but its so much lighter easier to deploy and lift I love it.

When I'm fishing shallow I wish it was 48" version when I'm offshore I wish it was 60" version. So I have the Ultrex 52" have to careful how you word a post when you're talking about shaft length

I just purchased a 45" even though a lot of folks think that they need the 52" all because I messaged a Bassmaster Elite Pro. He informed me that he ran the 45" and that was good enough for me. He also runs a Ranger and fishes off shore a lot.

I originally purchased a 52" and the base was too large for the amount of space I had on my bow to mount the base so I needed to exchange it for a 45" which has a smaller mounting base. I fish offshore more than anything and 9/10 the 45" shaft is just fine. If you are concerned about 45" not being a long enough shaft then bump up to the 52" just make sure the base will fit okay on your bow. I think the 60" would be overkill and unnecessary

Go with the 60", no trouble stowing, plus you got it when you need it. I've run a 60" ulterra and ultrex for the last 7 yrs, no problem at all.
