There’s a really nice 175 for sale in the for sale section for $3000. Might not be a bad option for you.

Number 2 piston probably not getting fuel therefore no oil! Premix doesn’t fix everything.

Taking it to same shop twice and having diagnosed and powerhead rebuilt twice evidently doesn't fix everything either.

I blew my motor and had it rebuilt and it blew again shortly after the break in so It was rebuilt again. During the break in on the second rebuild I noticed a miss while running at about 3500 rpm so I shut it down and started to look for the cause. There wasn't anything wrong with the rebuilt motor mechanically, however, the trigger wasn't firing correctly and it was the cause of both blown motors. The reason that it wasn't caught on the first and second rebuild was because I sent the powerhead off after I removed all the parts and replaced them when I received the rebuilt powerhead. I didn't address the cause for the first failure and it cost me more money than it should have..

he took the oil reservoir out so I have to add oil to it.. My son and I add oil after we fill it up. I have him with me to make sure I do it right and as a witness to make sure I don't forget. My old motor was a 1999 efi 150hp... I repowered to a 200hp efi...

Put the oil in first so that it gets mixed with the gas as you fill. If you're adding it afterwards you may have a low spot in the fill hose and you're not getting all the oil to the gas tank, thus a mixture lower than 50:1... Dan

This is very likely an electrical / timing issue. Especially with it being the same hole both times. Worked at a Mercury shop years ago, and if the stator/trigger went out, it would burn the #5 cylinder piston (on the 6 cyl. in line motors). You could replace the piston, clean the hole and re-ring it, and it would run fine - for about 15 minutes, and burn the #5 piston. Replace the stator and trigger, and it would last forever (practically). The same is going on here. Outboards actually have more tolerance for more/less oil than they do for pre-ignition. It will burn a piston quickly. This is an ignition issue. Replace the switchbox, and check the flywheel timing sensor. Those EFI's were bulletproof, and would run forever.

That's what I am thanking also Bryan O'. I thought the mechanic work was bad on mine but it was an electronic problem from the start. What was going on with mine was the trigger was allowing it to fire on more than one cylinder at a time.

find another mechanic or re-power.
