J-Moe, glad they were biting below the dam. i'm kind of sad that there were no fish up Nails Creek. i was trying to talk myself into heading up there this week. i was hoping this cooler weather had gotten the crappie heading up the creek. may be a little while longer. thanks for the report

For those that haven't been on the lake lately. It's under pool. The mouth of Nails Creek is almost completely silted up at this water level. There is only one small cut that is very shallow on the south side of the creek that will allow entry. I ran up it yesterday evening in my duck boat, scouting and fishing a little. Ya'll be mindful that duck season opens in North Zone this Saturday. Expect to see hunters in some of your fishing areas. Stay safe, tight lines

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

While you-all were hitting the creeks I had other fishing duties to attend to....

Anybody fishing this weekend? Thinking about trying the Yegua this Sunday. Not sure if it will be by bank or from kayak.

I had the crazy idea to go fishing in the rain yesterday on my day off. I got skunked but snagged a ton of buffalo down at the spillway.

J-Moe and I hit the two most popular creeks of Lake Somerville looking for bass and crappie but found little of either. Nails is flowing well but stained and the Yegua is it's typical beautiful clear green.

Made it out to Nails Creek yesterday afternoon. The creek looked really good other than being a bit low and slightly muddy. Fished the area between the trailway bridge and flag pond cut and caught one keeper size crappie. Was hoping for better results, but I think it's only a matter of days now before the crappie start showing up in numbers. I saw shad popping all over the place so the bait fish are there. Will probably try again in a few weeks.

Thanks for the report Jsinn01. Did you catch any black bass? With low expectations I will probably hit up the Yegua from the bank on Friday.

TXfisherman, I didn't catch any black bass, but there were some guys fishing with minnows that had caught a few. If you do try the Yegua from the bank your best bet is Irwin Bridge. They had Newman's completely closed when I was there on Sunday with no hiking in allowed.

They may have had one of the TPWD drawn hunts taking place last weekend.

Jsinn01: Thank you again for the information. I was planning on walking into Newman's bottom mad , so it is good to know. Not sure if Irwin is worth a try since the video dudes didn't catch much there. I couldn't find any TPWD drawn hunts for this past weekend.

Yeah, there was a sign at the road to Newman's Bottom that said "Area Closed". When I asked the park attendant at the Nails Creek office about it, she said that the area was closed due to organized hunts. I definitely wouldn't count on it being open, but if you find out something different let us know.
