ABOUT CRAPPIE .

Every time I think I have crappie behavior figured out they throw a curve ball when I expect a fast ball.

This summer I had about decided Lewisville was short of big crappie. Lots of fish up to 12" but rarely many bigger. Now we are catching lots of fish and most are over 12" up to 15". Where have they been?

In the past I was reluctant to schedule a trip right after a big front. Figured the fish would be hard to make bite. I fished three times in the last 10 days right after a front and killed them.

Wasn't planning on fishing today because it was cold after last night's front. At noon Rick called and sweet talked me into trying it for a while. Yes it was cold and windy from the north. We fished from 1:30 until 6:00PM on 6 brushpiles and caught and released 83. Only 10 were under 10" and more than half were over 12". Had 3 two pound ones.

Fish bit about 12' down in 15'-20' water. Best bait continues to be small plastics.

Since I don't know any better I'm going again tomorrow.

Keep smackin them Mr. Ernest. It often humbles me to know that I'm not any smarter than a dang fish...

I am so confused. One person says they are leaving the brush piles, another says they are going into the creeks, another says they are in 19 ft of water away from brush piles.. now you catch them in brush piles.

Depends on the lake not all lakes fish the same

The only fact about fishing is you just don't know, unless you go.

Fish go where the bait is. Brush piles today had bait all around them and crappie in them. Caught nice fish today , but no 2 pounders for me. Kept 10 for the table. They where full of fat and shad. They are on a heavy feed and starting to see small egg sacks.

I feel your pain Ernest...I have always considered you a crappie master angler, and always appreciate you sharing the wealth of your knowledge. With that said, ole Bushhog said it best, essentially, after all these years and all the knowledge, electronics, gear, etc., and we are still not as smart as a fish! Just boggles the mind..that is why I love crappie fishing!

I hope that one day, I will know so much, that I know nothing! BTW, some will say, that I am already there! Sadly, they are usually not talking about my crappie fishing!
