J-Moe and I made the paddle up the Yegua Saturday as planned. The creek is in good shape for the winter season and overall is fishing pretty well for Black bass. I did find one nice crappie, one 2 to 3# bass, and a nice catfish along with a dozen or two small bass & sunfish but I spent most of the day exploring way up the creek and targeting black bass. There were no big obstacles all the way up to Newmans Bottom at the low water crossing. Water was not as clear as I had hoped but the bass didn't seem to mind. Must have had a very good spawn last year as the creek is loaded with 8 to 10 inch black bass.

Thanks for the report, Ben! The crappie fishing should start heating up when the weather cools off a bit.

Thanks for the report Ben, I’ve been wanting to go out there and check it out. Waiting to have hernia surgery so I can get healthy and get out to the yegua .

Hey, wishing you a speedy recovery greenyak. For me the best months to fish the creeks are Nov - Jan. Before the white bass fever hits.

Jardelle is shallow from the bridge to the lake, most of it is less than 4ft deep. Ran up it yesterday in my duck boat.
If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

I mentioned in the latest video about how the Yegua has changed since the 2011drought and the last four floods most notably the loss of the trees .. This video is from April of 2011 before the drought and floods killed off many of the trees.

I noticed the lack of trees last year, walking the banks. I'm sure it's only gotten worse with another year of flooding.

I caught 3 nice whites last week in yegua near irwins bridge. I also caught a nice 8 lb black drum. Anyone know of anywhere else i could get on some whites besides irwins bridge and the spillway?

big z, thanks for the report. It usually takes a good flood to get the whites moving into the creek. I've caught them as early as December, but depends on how much rain we get before now and then. Until then, you could try the main lake along points, early in the morning or late in the evening.

I went to the dam this morning. The gates have been closed for over a month so I didn't expect much. But I was wrong. It was one of those special "Magical Clouser" days. I caught 66 keeper white bass, 2 hybrids, a 13 inch crappie, 2 small largemouth and another 10 plus undersized white bass. There was one person fishing with live freshwater shrimp that caught 6. Nobody else caught more than a couple of fish. The "Magical Clouser" once again proved it is truly magical.

Nice JMoe. I can't wait until the run this year. Still have my lucky hand tied jigs from last year. My parents are moving g to South Texas on a lake that has zero fly fishing records so I've been making flies like crazy. What type of line do you prefer to use for bass? I've got some cheep line on mine that doesn't allow for casting far.

I don't spend alot on lines or equipment. I like to use the Courtland rocket taper fly lines on my 8 weight.
