I've got a 2017 Silverado. While launching my boat yesterday my brakes almost quit working and I nearly rolled back into the lake. I came home and did some googling and found out this is happening to a bunch of people and there is a recall on the vacuum pump system that assists braking at low speeds, particularly in reverse. It'll pucker your butt when you are rolling down a boat ramp and your brakes don't work!
If you have a 2014-2018 GM vehicle, go see your dealer!
Date: September 6, 2019 NHTSA Recall Number: 9V645Recall Manufacturer Recall Number: N192268490
Summary: General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2014-2018 model year Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, and GMC Yukon vehicles. In some circumstances, these vehicle may have a condition in which the engine-mounted mechanical vacuum pump output may decrease over time, decreasing the amount of vacuum/power brake assist.

Brother in Laws failed after they did the reprogram. Definitely will get your attention.

I also have a 17 Silverado. Same exact thing happened to me. I took it to Huffines and they are saying it will be at least a week to get the vacuum pump in. Says the strike has parts back logged.

I took it straight back and the vacuum pump had failed. They replaced it. Sounds to me like the reprogram deal is a Band Aid fix and they should be replacing the vacuum pumps right off the bat.

It's clearly a parts issue. I've probably launched my boat a 100+ times over the past two years without issue. Now this last time the brakes don't work? Clearly a part that was working is no longer working. I'm not going to be okay with reprogramming something to act as a band-aid.

Only in reverse and going down a boat ramp. I can't seem to replicate it otherwise.
