[quote=Dan90210 ☮]There was a song in the 90s with a lyric that always confused me. The singer says- And I miss you Like the deserts miss the rain My confusion is/was that the desert is not accustomed to rain. Why would it miss the rain? It does not have rain. Its like me saying I miss the 100 golden bullion coins... I dont miss those because I never had them. So does this singer really miss the person she is singing too? /quote] Everything but the girl....you've carried that thought for quite some years, you'll feel better now you've shared it Yes. Everything but The Girl. And no, I do not feel better. I still feel like this is unanswered. I really feel like the song was almost meant to be sarcastic in a way. A very English way that you would understand. It could be a coy or sly way of saying I dont miss you at all.

Think of it like this Dan. When it rains in the Desert, the Desert comes back to life. Flowers bloom, brine shrimp hatch, etc. So by him saying "And I miss you Like the deserts miss the rain" he is saying he doesn't feel alive without her.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

Or it could be that the rain is so infrequent that the desert does not long for it... its used to not having it. To say it misses the rain is melancholy as its existence is without it... and its fine. AND as to your comment about the Mojave getting plenty of rain... IDK where you were in the Mojave but I was at Nellis for 3 years and grew up in Vegas since the age of 15... in the Mojave and it never rains! We get more rain in one normal t-storm here than they get in a full year in Vegas. When it would rain people would leave work, use sick time, to go home and WATCH the rain. It was like an event if it rained.

It was like an event if it rained. Was at Edwards for about 5 years. So much rain and humidity the swamp coolers were worthless at times. The dry lake beds had so much water a couple years that the road on the west side of the base was half underwater when the dry lake beds filled up. Yes, there were dry spells, and the lake beds would dry enough to land aircraft on very quickly as the summer temps raged past 110 degrees with ease, but we got lots of rain, even snow while I lived there.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

Try “We built this city on rock and roll”...
Rolling Stone Top Ten Worst Songs of the 1980s Edit In 2011 a Rolling Stone magazine online readers poll named "We Built This City" as the worst song of the 1980s. The song's winning margin was so large that the magazine reported it "could be the biggest blow-out victory in the history of the Rolling Stone Readers Poll".[11]
GQ Worst Song of All Time In August 2016, Gentlemen's Quarterly magazine declared this song as the worst of all time, referring to it as "the most detested song in human history".[12] The article covered Bernie Taupin's role in writing an early version of the song, the backlash against a video that no one liked and Grace Slick's inconsistent statements about whether she liked it or not.

“I miss you like the deserts miss the rain” can be reformulated in “I don’t quite miss you …you know, like the deserts don’t quite miss the rain. I’m just fine without you.”

I only like on Justin Bieber song. Love yourself. The recorded lyrics: "'Cause if you like the way you look that much Oh, baby, you should go and love yourself And if you think that I'm still holdin' on to somethin' You should go and love yourself"
What he is really saying: 'Cause if you like the way you look that much Oh, baby, you should go and (fcuK) yourself And if you think that I'm still holdin' on to somethin' You should go and (fcuk) yourself

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name. It felt good to be out of the rain. In the desert you can remember your name, 'cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.
