Ok I blew my motor in Sept. on Lake Whitney... So I take it to a place someone recommended to me ( not going to mention the place. People will know it) So I get it fixed and take it out putting break in hours on the motor and it does great. We are now past break in period and I am running on PK ( in Oct. ) and it does it again ( blown again).. So I take it back gets fixed again and go through break in period and it is running great. Took it to Squaw today and running around 45 mph it blew again. It has a 6 month warranty on it so it is still under warranty. My question is should I let the guy fix i again or ask for my money back and go else were.
I have never had blown a motor before so I did not know what to expect but man this is getting old...
My son fishes for his highschool team and we broke down during a tournament.. He was doing good but not catching any fish did not help..

I would begin by asking why it failed after the rebuild. The answer you get may tell you whether to give it another chance or take it elsewhere.

You have given more chances than I would have already. I have no tolerance for failing equipment so I would get it fixed again under warranty and look for either a new engine or a new rig.

Just curious but have you checked your oil feeder if you have one?

Sounds like the cause of first blowup was not addressed. Until that problem is corrected it will continue happening. That was something we were taught at Mercury service training a long time ago.

Guy has to be going broke. Iā€™m surprised he will even still touch it.

Without knowing what motor your dealing with it sounds like hes not replacing something.

I had a black max mercury rebuilt and assumed he would replace the oil pump etc since I went as far as to make him used aftermarket forged performance pistons etc.. But he didnt replace the oil pump so that motor seized up within 10 minutes on me and he fixed it and admitted the pump wasnt replaced. After that it worked fine. My mind was blown someone would rebuild a engine, carbs and be told spare no expense do my water pump etc while your there and he DIDNT replace the oil pump.

That said Ive never heard of anyone saying well yeah I cant do it properly heres your money. Maybe youll get lucky. Id explain to him that his prior work is showing he cant do it, so he should cut his loss refund you to save the bad reputation as well as not keep investing his time and money into something he cant do, he should work on stuff he can do and make a profit with his time.

he took the oil reservoir out so I have to add oil to it.. My son and I add oil after we fill it up. I have him with me to make sure I do it right and as a witness to make sure I don't forget. My old motor was a 1999 efi 150hp... I repowered to a 200hp efi...

I would present it to him like I tried to word it.. "hey Ill take it to xxx or Ill buy a used xxx, that way you dont have to keep wasting your time and losing money on it" "Ill help you, Ill do you the favor" etc.

Since your pre mixing very little that can go wrong. One is lack of fuel to a cylinder therefore creating a lack of oil. The other is your not getting the ratio correct. What ratio are you mixing?

I would definitely look into why it keeps blowing up.
