Oh dang okay. Think the 12 lbs trilene I have be fine? Or should I go down lower?

Also I am now using a MH rod instead of a M. Could this be another large factor as well?

Yes on the M/H rod. I use a 3 power rod 1/4-3/4 lure weight rating on the rod for throwing the wacky senko type bait and a 4 power rod 3/8-1oz lure weight for the Tx. rig Senko type bait and the super fluke. Even though the lure you are throwing might be lighter than the lure rating on the rod it is ok because the lure rating is mainly an indication of the stiffness of the rod.

Buzz baits are a blast to throw.
Square bills from the 1.0, 1.5 and 2.5 can get you some reaction bites if they are slow to bite soft plastics.
Spinner bait--I like a double willow blade better than the Colorado ones, but that just me. Both work.
Top water baits like the Yellow Magic is another good choice to try out. Throw them on your medium action rod.

Many lakes in Texas have colors that all the guides like to use and no two lakes are the same.

I never considered that since I only fished in two places in WA: Spokane River and a lake in Idaho. I’ll test it out as I have a few colors just the ones that worked back home was watermelon

Dang on the rod, guess I may have to stay more focused on it if I want to continue using a baitcast for now as the rod was expensive, (to me starting the hobby). Suppose the MH power 5 is more for pitching in heavier brush and such?

I still need to learn how to use the other baits and have been watching videos. I think the biggest thing is I over analyze and always assume my speed is off, either too fast or too slow. Sure I’m not the only one lol.

I’m so thrilled how wel my post is coming along too thanks everyone!!! Heading to bed soon to head out in the morning and hit the pond early instead of late ðŸ˜

A 5 power rod is typically described as a heavy action rod and yes it is used for larger or heavier baits. Power fishing.

A 7" senko is pretty heavy, and I use them all the time on the Delta if it's windy

Braid gets blown to hell in the wind...I have a dedicated rod for the wind senko weightless. It has 14lb flouro MH action and a fast reel (7.3:1 gears).

Maybe reverting back to medium rod and mono line will be best till I get more experience under my belt since I am more comfortable with it and maybe move to having a 2nd bass rod MH. After using braid for a few hours and dealing with the wind, I get what you are talking about Avid_basser. Maybe there is a more appropriate season for braid but right now winds have been kinda high over here.

Cant sleep, fishing on the mind

Braid isn't a "seasonal" choice, it is a technique choice. I use it on a spinning reel because braid does not have any memory and I hate the way other lines develop curl on a spinning reel, and I use it for top water fishing frogs. I also use braid for punching thick grass with heavy gear.

Noted. Switched to mono line last night and went out this morning for a few hours with a medium rod and my worms, I got worms lol. Noticed strikes much easier but managed to only land 3. largest was about 16†and about 2ish lbs.

To me it seems like the lmb strike softer than smb, based on my limited experience fishing. Is that normal? Ended up using Yum thumpin dinger watermelon.

Used a lil weight when wind kicked up but still got more bites/strikes weightless and just poppin it. Hopefully get more water time tomorrow to practice ^.^

Great, now that you are feeling the sunfish and turtle farts you are good to go with the setup! woot roflmao

Bass can bite soft, or jerk the rod out of your hand. Sometimes it'll feel like a thump, others you will just see it swimming! If you get the tickticktickticktick, but now boom, drag slowly to see if you feel resistance, or the bass teeth, then set the hook like a monster, it could be the biggest fish of your life!

😂 Love it!

Appreciate the guidance more practice to come. I should probably choose a top water to work on along with this now just not sure what to focus on.

If you've got any rock, on windy days it's easy peasy to fish c-rig with 1/2 oz weight. Cast it right into the wind no issues. C-rig is a very good technique as the water cools in 15-25 FOW.

Hey guys been out using the advise and doing better on those bass! Thanks! Last question pertaining to the trig. Would Fluor be better for line than mono because Fluor sinks or does the floating of mono actually more helpful in your guys’ experience. Thanks!
