Hello folks. We have just moved to Weatherford from Tennessee. I'm not looking for info about your personal spots, etc but would like to know about a few of the lakes near Weatherford. Is Weatherford Lake worth fishing? How about Possum Kingdom? Any info and advice is very welcome! I am only concerned about bass fishing. Also ... what about recreational traffic on these lakes or others?

Thanks in advance for any input. I'm looking forward to living here!

Hair.

Like most parts of the county between Memorial day and Labor day the boat and jet flea traffic is terrible.
Weatherford is OK, problem is if you stay late on that lake you will get the gate locked behind you at the boat ramp.
Eagle Mountain, and Benbrook are good at times - I used to live on the Eagle Mountain for 20 years and I still only do OK on it.
PK is a hell of a lake. I've had a few 100 bass days on it over the past few years and there is some giants in there.
Granbury is OK
Squaw Creek is simply awesome in the winter except for the crowds. The lake was shut down for 10 years after 911 and it produced some great 5 to 8 lb fish for about 7 years, the tournament fishing has ruined that lake on size.
There are a few sleeper lakes west of you, Lake Daniels, Hubbard Creek Lake and Leon can be awesome at times.
Then to the north you have Bridgeport and Lake Amon G Carter - these can be great at times, they both just take a while to learn.
Then North East you have Ray Roberts - I fished it hard from 1987 thru 2012 - and have simply determined I will only fish it from April thru June - All of my big fish have come from there.
This area of north Texas went thru a 5 year drought from 2010 till 2015 and the lakes are really rebounding

Davis summed it up pretty well. Hubbard doesn't get much pleasure boat traffic due to everyone going to PK

All the lakes out here fish pretty well, expect 20 lbs to win most of the tournaments on just about any of them with certain times of the year and on certain lakes a 30 lb sack is not unheard of.

WOW David ..... That is a GREAT bunch of info. Thank you so much for taking the time to post all of that.

Sounds like Possum Kingdom is a great place.

On another note: Here in Tennessee we had a bad problem at one time with thieves stealing tow vehicles and trailers. Is there any area(s) that I should avoid or that can be a problem?

Ray Roberts - Buck Creek Boat Ramp is what seems to keep popping up on the reports as a bad place for break ins.
