Hmm... There seems to be a little painting with broad strokes and a lot of “public school” ignorance being exhibited (that means on display) in this thread... If you can do better for your kids why not do it? In my case the public school district was good I suppose but a better education was available.

Homeschooled kids were usually weirdos The ones I have known were just normal kids and at a higher level of learning than their public school friends that were in the same grade. Talking about Midlothian public schools btw Idk man I’d say 99 percent I knew growing up were weirdos I’ve heard it’s gotten better All I can speak for are the ones I actually met.

I went from public to private to home school to private to back to home school. Each had it's advantages. For me I learned a heck of a lot more when home schooled and it was really hard. I learned more in home school then in any college course and definitely public school. The other advantage was time, I spent only four hours a day home schooling! I was able to internship as a welder, carpenter and small engine mechanic. It was awesome to have so much free time as a kid!
The home school crowd I was introduced to were very socially awkward and the parents seemed very much in control of the kids, almost fanatical in a way. They sheltered the kids from the real world to the point were 10th graders had the innocence of a 5th grader, it was definitely different. My mom and some others weren't this way but the majority I knew were.
Private school has a heavier work load then public and you don't get away with late assignments, disrespectful attitudes or appearance. Public school was a joke, even the AP classes weren't that hard but public prepares you more socially, has way more sports, school bus and cafeteria. The counseling was superior as well.
That being said, my kids did public for awhile but I have them in a private school now. I can tell a big difference in their work load and they are at least 2 years ahead of their age in maturity compared to their neighborhood friends. I mean how many 5th graders know the constitution and how the government works? He has the declaration of independence memorized. They memorize 20 word and their definitions for spelling weekly. It sounds over the top but kids are smart and his memorization is so developed it doesn't take him long.
Public schools have their problems on the adminstration level, but the real problem is the parents of the students. They don't care. Teachers give up. I have 6 public school teachers in my family 3 with 20+ years. They told me to take my kids out of public schools. They told me they can't fail a kid, even if they turn in a blank paper. Horror stories upon stories. The teachers are great but the parents dont care.
One last thing. My Mom was amazing, a hard worker and extremely intelligent. No way I could of done what she did. It takes a person like that to be a great home school teacher. Thanks Mom for always putting me first!! Unfortunately I feel like your children are considered awkward by the majority of kids there own age. I have a niece who you basically described and she is so smart she can’t really function around her classmates. All kids are different. The ones I met I would not have known they were home schooled unless I was told

Homeschooling does discourage teacher / student affairs. Except in Oklahoma and Arkansas.

My oldest son will grind up his doe on Friday. Thats pretty educational. More than 50 years ago, my mother kept me home from school in the late fall because she knew it was the last time my grandfather would be able to kill and butcher hogs and put them in his log smoke house on his farm. He was getting old and his health was failing. I stayed there all day and watched and participated in a tradition that now is pretty much long gone. I can’t tell you a darn thing about my year in 4th grade that year, but I can still remember everything about that one day on my grandfathers farm.

I am a strong advocate for public schools in general, but unfortunately some are falling short. Not always their fault as they have kids from families that do not encourage them or support them much. It takes an extraordinary parent to do a good job, but some do. I think that a part of education is learning how to cope and excel in a situation with lots of distractions. A parent who is a good home schooler would also be one who would supplement the public school where they have short comings.

I don’t know any stats overall regarding home schooling but I have 3 nieces And 1 nephew that were homeschooled in the metromess area and all are very successful and not socially awkward at all. An awesome group of young adults actually. Please don't blow up the preconceived ideas of those who love to paint with the wide swath negative brush.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

You mean like saying ALL liberals are anti-gun, don’t have jobs, anti-military, control the media, atheistic, socialistic and overly sensitive? I've got 1 1/2 years left until graduation. I'm glad my parents have Homeschooled me. I have friends who went to public school and they say there's some weird stuff. And public schools are just brainwashing kids now, making more liberals and climate change activists(at least the ones around here). I was taught to think for myself and not what others tell me to think. Plus, when its deer season, or any other season, we can get up, go hunting a few hours in the morning come home, do my school, then head back out. Plus I've sort of "self taught" myself a bit on small engine and mower repair , and fixed a side by side or 2., Can operate Tractors and standard Trucks.
