Was able to fish a nice hill country pond before this latest cold front arrived. Used my 3wt fly rod. The bite was good. I was able to catch a bunch of nice Copper Nose Bluegill in the 8" to 9" range, some Redear in the 8" to 9" range and a few nice pond bass in the 3 pound range. Fighting a 3lb bass on a 3wt is TOTALLY AWESOME! Brown Salamanders, Black/Yellow Beatles, and Red Lady Bug Poppers worked very well. Dragon flies were out in full force and the fish were hitting the top of the water trying to catch them. I had Dragon Fly flies but left them at home. Fished from 11am till 3pm and caught over 30 fish. A great simple pre front pond fishing trip. Got to love it. woot

Great post Curtis. As I always say pond fishing is hard to beat! thumb

Side note: Steve: Yes there are plenty of Coppernose Bluegill around. As far as true 100 percent Coppernose Bluegill it is hard to say. With all of the inner breeding going on in the sunfish family It would not surprise me that any of the six species of sunfish are 100 percent in their gene pool. noidea

Gitter Done: The pond is good size. It is just under two acres. The deepest part of the pond is in the middle which is 12 feet! There is a nice drop from 5 feet to 10 feet. The pond is spring fed but also get's a lot of runoff during a rain shower. The pond is also managed very well.

Vogey: I agree what Chuck stated above about the inner breeding in the sunfish family! The pond I fish had been stocked with 100 percent "True Copper Nose Bluegill"! They were bought from a private hatchery.
