I have a dough bait recipe that works well for catfish and carp, Iā€™m sure buffalo would eat it also.

Use:
2 pounds flour
2 pounds oats
1 pound brown sugar
Strawberry jello packet
Two to three heaping spoonful scoops of peanut butter
And about 1/3 of a bottle of vanilla extract
Mix in water to desired consistency....usually about 2-2.5 water bottles worth of.

Hope that gives him something to start with. If you have cattail fuzz to throw in it i think it makes it that much more durable.

Be cautious about treble hooks if you are going to do catch and release , sometimes the treble hooks rips their mouth up . I cat fish and will catch a carp once in a while . I have started cutting one hook off the treble to minimize the damage on the fish when they are undersized .

Agreed with this ^^

If you are fishing in an area you know has a healthy concentration of buffs you can use a simple small Gamakatsu hook with corn. I usually use size 6. Set up your rig like a simple Carolina rig. Worms also work well for buffs, but I have had best luck with corn.

If you want to simply try and chum up a spot, I will typically poor quick oats in to a large freezer bag, pour in 2 cans of cream corn, mix it up really good and let it all soak in. When you get to your spot, roll up your chum to the size of a golf ball or baseball and throw it out. Then cast out your bait and you should do well.

Just in case people are not aware the catfish will bite dough bait. If you want catfish i migh teplace the jello with garlic. Catfish just like garlic. I am a very bad carp fisherman but i do catch some. Mostly enjoy just having my line stretched. Just in case anyone is curious carp do taste as good as any fish.
