Fished from 8:30 to 2:30 today...water temp 76 degrees and 1 foot low. Well...it's been a good year, but sad to say the bluegill/red ear bite is done. Fished all the best spots...reedbeds, roadbeds, trees & rip rap and managed to catch 1... 4 inch bluegill. Fished for these guys most of the day, and fished for bass for about an hour. Did manage to get 5 pretty nice bass, so the day wasn't a total bust. This is the time of year I usually switch to Dunlap, so guess I will concentrate on bass until Doc or Fred figures where the heck they go in the winter. Last year they shut off this same week...go figure...

Wow. Talk about flipping a switch ! Hopefully we can figure out where they go after leaving the shallows. It will be fun to try. With bass like that as a fall back strategy you can’t lose.

WOW! That is hard to beleave. You would figure that those fish have to be somewhere. They would also need to feed especially with it still being on the warm side. So much for fall patterns on Fayette! There is always next year.

I thought this was an April Fools Joke! Can't beleave the sunfish bite completely shut down on Fayette. At least you caught some nice bass!

Gitter...No idea...deep somewhere...maybe creek channels etc...Will still be searching with the help of doctorxring & his side scan unit.

I think the problem is you've caught them all at least once so they're on to you!

On the other hand, those two bass are a very nice consolation prize.

Hard to believe. After seeing 100's of SLABS all year on some OUTSTANDING POST and now a FLAT 0. Just goes to show you that at any given time a water body can turn completely off! You would figure that a power plant lake the fish would stay somewhat active all year around. Something happened to cause a complete shoot down. Got a feeling the fish had moved to deeper water and are now staying in the thick Hydrilly beds. You are spot on Vogey when you say after a certain time the Bluegill on Fayette go into complete hiding.

Thick hydrilla beds? You obviously haven't been to Fayette in a while!

Maybe not Hydrilla but there are plenty of weed beds in that lake. Thick ones at that!


Side Note: Great post as always Vogey. At least you caught some nice bass. As for the sunfish they may have moved into deeper water!

Thanks for the report. Saved me a trip. Maybe the fish went into hiding after the lake turnover and will return to normal locations after a few weeks; or they're all bunched into one tiny spot and you can catch them all for a 3rd time this year.

John...I am pretty sure that's not the issue...I would be willing to bet that I have not caught even 1 % of the bluegill on that lake.

Laker...There isn't much if any Hydrilla left on Fayette...but there is plenty of naiad grass...it's similar, but more spiney and I believe it only grows in sallow water.

Gitter & Jamie...I think they move way out to specific spots...In deep creek channels or deep water structures way off shore...I believe that if you can find these spots they will hold hundreds of big fat gils. Let the search begin...I jut got an updated topo map of Fayette lake in the mail...so the question becomes, do I search for these spots or go for bass which I know I can catch in pretty good numbers if I focus on them...hmmm...A delima

I would do both Steve. Search for the Gills and catch some bass!

I would venture to say that the deeper creek channels would be a good place to start looking!
