Hey folks, I was able to get back on the river with son in law and 9 year old grandson over the weekend-
He turned 9 Saturday and said all he wanted to do was to go to the river with Papaw-
He loves kayaking with me on local lakes and he really wanted to kayak the river and camp out-
First time I was able to do the trip below PK to the Hwy 4 bridge was in 1978, and to be able to share this river with grandsons so many years later means a ton to me-
I know I always enjoy when I get to see others trips especially with the young ones, so I figured I’d post up for those that may enjoy it also-
The river was not running good at all only 50 cfs, and I just didn’t want to walk the river as much as I new we would have to, so we just camped at Rochelles and were able to run up river and down and back with little effort-
The bite was decent, not great but I’ve seen worse-
Road runners caught some fish, but we also did pretty good on live hellgrammites, and cut shad-
(Those hellgrammites are nasty little boogers but they will catch fish)
Caught one real nice striper on a shad head rigged up for catfish, I’ve never had that happen before-
Anyway it was another good time on the brazos, and fresh caught fish cooked on the campfire beside the river they were just swimming in never disappoints-
Just a few pics-

Lol-
Ok I didn’t make it clear, that is my son in law, not me, the only lifting I do anymore Is my fork-
He is a firefighter and stays in shape, the shape I am in looks like a Buda statue-
But yessir, I really enjoy being outdoors with the youngsters, I feel blessed when they still want to go with me-
I’ll always make time as long as I am able-

Yes Butch that’s what we do, I’ll stop by the dollar store and buy a small pan to fry and a small sauce pan to boil water for coffee/hot chocolate and camping cups-
Small bottle of oil and fish fry-
Just throw the pans away at the end of the trip-
I like to eat good while on the river-
Pans, ketchup, and spices take just a small bit of room compared to what we get out of bringing it-

Thanks Jerry, it’s always fun letting them see this kind of fun, I realize there are many youngsters that don’t get to experience more than a public park.
My hope is that they will continue to seek out this kind of fun-
cheers

I love it when we have raccoon visitors!
It’s been a few trips without them coming by though-
