I’m fairly new to bass fishing but i tend to have some success at most lakes that i go to. Unfortunately i have struggled with alan henry and cannot quite figure the lake out. Does anyone have any useful tips that tend to work at this lake. I normally throw soft plastics in the brush, and a spinnerbait on occasion at this lake.

This past spring we had a lot of luck fishing a drop shot. Throwing up shallow and working back to the boat very slow. Alot of the bites would come directly under the boat. I had my best luck on the Z-man hula sticks and the finesse turd. I was using green pumpkin and Canadian craw colors. I have not been since June but if I went now I would fish a topwater early (yellow magic in bone color) Maybe a zoom horny toad in watermelon magic. I would then throw a fluke, swim bait or a shad colored crank bait.

at one time this was a very good lake worth the amount it cost to get in it to fish there were quite a few big fish coming out of it then parks an wildlife put spotted bass in it an it has gone way down hill you can tell this by the weights that it takes to win the few tournaments that are there.

I fished the lake quite a bit a few years ago. It took me a while to figure the lake out. I finally realized that for me the best bet was to find the shallower creeks with the dirtiest water I could and fish it. This is probably just because I’m not used to deep clear water, so I was fishing my strengths. I saw plenty of big fish on the lake in the clearer water, but never caught anything over 5lbs at AH. There are some guys who really know what they’re doing on that lake in both the shallow/dirty water and the deep/clear water. The Pool brothers have great success out there, and Thad Rains has always done well out there as well, he knows the lake well. He’s made you a great offer up there, if you plant to fish the lake much and want to figure it out I would take him up on it!
"The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad."

Thanks, LXfromTx.
I appreciate your confidence in me; I have been fishing the lake since 1997 and even have CDs f the lake at 25' 32 or 33 feet deep, 42 and 53 foot depths. It DOES fish differently than almost any other lake I have fished. It just takes a lot of time, or good luck to learn it Thanks again for the words. Respectfully,
Thad Rains

I agree. my company has a tournament there every year and most the time the winners have huge stringers but once you get down to 5th place and lower the weights drop off drastically.

I fished the last 2 weekends and didnt wear them out. Got some decent fish to hit a spook early on. First was a 5+ that ran at boat and didnt get a good hook set. Jumped at boat and threw my lure.
The following weekend set the hook on a good fish and he broke the rear treble hook.
Ive been having better luck fishing bluff walls in the stained water.
Once the topwater bite quits been catching a few on jigs. Fish have been right on the walls in about 10' or so.
From what i gather thise that were catching numbers of fish were finding bait and dropping down spoons.

That might be what i need to try. I just figured this time of year we’d be able to find them pushed back in the creeks.
