Folks, have a can of seafoam in my garage. Have never added it to anything before. I have a 2005 Merc EFI 225 that I recently purchased. Should I add a can to the tank not knowing if the engine will benefit or not?

I use Startron which is a similar product but mine is a 4 stroke. I would think a 2 stroke would benefit even more. If you use ethanol fuel I would use it and Stabil or similar product.

Techron is probably the best you can use. Many Merc. mechanics will recommend it if they are not pushing the quick sliver line. Seafoam will not clean injectors as well as techron or quick silver. I've used techron for years now and when I sent my injectors in to Brucato's they said they were still quite clean.

If there were injector issues it wasn't caused by sea foam! Raced two stroke outboard engines for years. Nothing better that sea foam to take carbon off period. Still use it in every gasoline engine I have. Had a rear seal leaking in pickup. Added it to men engine oil. Lubbed the seal and leak stopped over 100,000 mileages ago! Can't say enough good things about it.

One can is not going to much of anything..... When I go after carbon, I use Evinrude engine tuner or Mercury power tune and follow directions on can. I do that twice a year. I think a little Techron in each tank is good as well.

It would be a lot cheaper to go to walmart and buy a bottle of alcohol. Just dump that in your tank. Lol

For you guys running two strokes. Once a year try this. Tilt engine up. Remove each spark plug and pour i/2 cup of sea foam in. Pour one can of sea foam in gas tank. Let sit overnight. Start your engine and run out on the water at full throttle for a few minutes, You won't believe how much smoke and carbon will come out of your engine!! Been doing this for over twenty years to clean out carbon. Amazing how much better your engine will run. Just my two cents worth.

Question for FlyingButcher: Do you mean 1/2 cup of sea foam per spark plug so for my V6, 3 cups total. Thanks

Yes that is correct, it will fill cylinder. Any excess will just drain through. Rotate cylinders so you can get sea foam in. (some pistons will be at top of cylinder). I drag raced boats for many years. Used this stuff on all of them.

buy the spray and fog each cylinder, do not run on muffs over concrete or it will leave stains that won't come out.
