Myself and buddy Jeff fished what is left of Lake Dunlap this past Friday. The Guadalupe river is closed starting at the Dunlap dam all the way to Gonzales. We launched our kayaks under the IH 35 bridge. We fished from 10am till 4pm. We had a pretty good day. Caught plenty of bass in the 2 to 4 pound range and had several BIG BASS simply spit the baits back at us. Caught some nice Redear in the 9 inch range but they were pretty thin. Did manage some fat Bluegill in the 8 to 9 inch range and a few nice Rios in the 9 to 10 inch range. We caught about 50 fish total. All fish were released. Fish were located by brush piles and at some of the deeper pools. We were able to kayak all the way down the river with no problems at all. Fish were caught on plastic worms Chartreuse in color,White Curly tail Grubs,Gulp Alive Minnows, Blue/Silver in color, and various small spinner baits. The water was clear in some spots and stained in other areas. The river had a good flow. Saw four other anglers all in kayaks. As we were ending our trip we did get checked by the Game Warden at the ramp. All in all a great day fishing the Dunlap River Channel. woot

Side Note: Wish It was the old Lake Dunlap. Also spoke with several lake side home owners who stated the lake will come back in the next 3 to 5 years. hmmm

We paddled all the the way down to Fairy Boat lane just down from Schumann's Boat Ramp! Jeff had his truck park at the ramp and we were able to trailer are yaks back to IH 35. I have paddled back many times in the past against the current and it is usually not all that bad. The only times that it is pretty bad is after a lot of water is being let out of Canyon Lake. I usually put in at Schumann's if the current is very strong!

Nice report Laker. Good jog guys.

Side Note: How much fishing pressure is Dunlap getting after the dam break?

A lot! Saw six other anglers fishing from yaks. I heard during the weekends there is a lot of fishing going on especially on the upper end of the river! nuts

I was just thinking about trying to get a day in on this stretch of water with my PA before it gets real cold. Thanks for sharing Curtis.
