There is talk of fishing north of the pipe line on Palastine. Can somebody tell me where that is, I can't seem to find it on Navionics.
Thanks

Couple of pipelines in Kickapoo both are east of the Island Not sure if those are the pipelines you mean but only ones I know of on Palestine. North of them would be the river and cades lake

Are you sure they didn't say north of the POWER Lines? I'm by no means an expert on Palestine, but I will not run anything north of the power lines. The power lines run east/west from Westberry Landing to just south of the kickapoo ramp. North of those is idle only for me in both the Neches and Kickapoo. Personally I will only run to the powerlines on the east side of the lake, and that is pretty sketchy right now. Some good fishing up both the Neches and Kickapoo, but its really tough on boats.

Actually there is a pipeline that runs completely across the north end of Palestine. It is approximately 1/2 mile south of the highline but it goes a little from the southwest to the north east compared to the east to west route of the highline. If you zoom out on google earth you can see where it cuts through the land leaving the lake. This screen shot is from 12/2011 when the lake was low and you can see it going through the stumps. Back in the late 70's it was easy to see but today hardly any of the 50 million stumps are visible above water. Years ago you could run the pipeline then pick up a one lane logging road and run it to the highline. If you fish north today you should just launch at Kickapoo and only run the highline and it is not very wide. [Linked Image]

Yeah, the TPWD Palestine fishing report for 10-17-19 says, "above the pipeline". I was wondering where the pipeline was myself. I assume it meant power line.

I’m assuming all the white dots in the picture are stumps. It’s interesting to see that view. I’ve only been on a few lakes here in Texas but am always concerned about hitting a stump and doing damage. I research ahead of time and look at what others post to try and make sure I know where to run and where to avoid but it is always a little nerve wracking.

I know of two, one runs East to West, the other runs North to South, both have sawed off widow makers in them.

Thank you everybody for your help and comments. We had a 2 day club tournament there last week end. We went out there Thursday to pre-fish and try to find a way to Cades lake. We put in at Westberry or whatever it's called, as soon as the boat came off the trailer it was on bottom, loaded it back on the trailer and headed to the Villages to launch. Launched the boat and headed north again through ten million stumps (and then it got bad) we didn't know the right trail to get back there and wound up with the boat sitting on the bottom of the lake. We were close to Cades lake, but after I had to get in the water and push the boat off of DRY land LOL we had had enough. we went back south to fish the tournament (my fishing partner won the Saturday tournament) we didn't do so good on Sunday.

Burns, take a look at Tom Mayne's chip. I bought one for my boater. We ran it this past weekend. All clear at low water levels. We did not run north of power lines though. The chip is great. Takes the worry out.

Little Pipeline, Big Pipeline, Powerline, Pucker up is all you need to know LOL

And yes it’s all on the chip. I wouldn’t brave running the old jeep trail unless you have a death wish however there are some that seem to think it’s a good idea but not many so that should tell you something LOL

If you try to head into the river/cades at this water level and don’t know the path that will happen. You spend enough time up north banging your boat into stumps you figure it out but it’s a beating.

I doubt if anybody could run the road between the Highline and the big Pipeline today. It was a real squirrelly endeavor when you could see all the stumps and trees you needed to miss. It twisted and turned several times and probably wasn't 15' wide. Even if you had accurate waypoints I doubt you could stay on them. When I said "years ago" I mean about 35 years ago.
