First time ever. Was diagnosed with asthma this year. My pulmonologist recommends it for all his patients. Funny, he felt he needed to point out that you can’t get the flu from the shot.

Because its true but people will still insist they got the flu from the shot......they may have picked up the flu in the waiting room or such but it did not come from the shot. Its an old wive's tale that the internet has really help spread.

Same here. I couldn't tell you when I last had a flu shot. Now I will get bronchitis every once in a while, and did have the flu 3 years ago. I like my odds, and any time I see government suggested or mandated injections of something (who really knows what it is) into my body, all I can think of is nope, not a chance.

Government and injections? See Tuskegee experiment.

I'm not an antivaxxer as I've had shots against most everything you can get one for. I even took an experimental shot against getting VD once before a trip to Mexico. However, I also have to wonder why the government pushes this so hard every year?

Because it has an extraordinary ROI. 30 dollar shot vs a week of lost productivity or a week in the hospital. Even for the insurance companies it's a slam dunk, the less sick people there are the more of the premiums they get to keep.

I'm sure you have a valid argument. However, why not the same focus on, for example, back pain, which causes many more days of lost productivity?

Flu and complications from it killed 80,000 people in the USA during the 2017-2018 season. Plus an estimated 900,000 people were hospitalized due to flu.

Somewhere between 25,000 and 35,000 Americans die of the flu every year. I see no good reason not to get a flu shot.

A news story a couple of days ago reported that a universal flu shot is less than ten years away. One would get that shot just once and would protect one from the flu for life.

The great pandemic flu of 1918/1919 killed well over 100 million people world wide.....in just once winter. Stange is that the very young and the old, who one would think would be the majority of the victims, were not. The healthy 20, 30 and 40 years old were the victims. There was one story that I found frightening: a healthy man left home one morning for work. He never made it. He died on thee bus on the way to work. That flu strain could kill that quickly.

It makes no sense not to get the flu shot.....in my humble opinion.

Look! Up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's an EMP!

I didn't say I didn't get one. My point is why the emphasis on flu shots when there are other things just as preventable and debilitating?

$19-20 or free at the county health clinic. Check the cost of a Tamiflu or a hospital stay or missed work if you think that is severe.

If there was no flu vaccine the death toll of the very young and the very old would be enormous. We need the herd protection.

Because they don't have a 30 dollar solution for that. If they did, I'd be lined up for that shot too!
