Medicare and insurance companies pay for the shot most likely through an agreement. It is much cheaper to do it that way because meds and/or hospitalization is much more expensive. However, anyone without insurance can go to the county health and get one free. So there is no excuse.

Last time I got it was when my niece was born and my SIL required everyone who came to visit her to get a flu shot and some other vaccine boosters. I work from home and don’t have kids, so I don’t get it. Haven’t had the flu in a long time. Maybe since college.

No I am 72 and have never had a flu shot. The flu may kill me but so far I have only had it twice.

The flu shots are made to combat the most common strains of flu for that year. Unfortunately there are many different strains each year so the shots are not universally effective.

I usually get it, but every year I debate it. I'm a huge believer in vaccines, however I struggle with the flu shot.

1. I'm young and healthy so if I get the flu, odds are it won't be that big of a deal.
2. The effectiveness of the shot varies wildly every year, but even on a good year it's usually only 60% effective at best.
3. Maybe I'm just a giant wimp, but the dang shot hurts. I just got mine yesterday and my arm still feels like someone smacked it with a baseball bat. It was bad enough I tossed and turned in my sleep all last night.

I've personally know of two people that died from the flu and that was too close to home.
I've had the flu before thought I was going to die and didn't care.
