Went out with Chris and his wife this Saturday to Grapevine to try and catch a few more fish before the tournament this weekend. Fish were crashing constantly, but seemed to be near the surface of the water. Unfortunately I had only brought tackle to target them on the bottom frown
Thankfully we still eeked out a decent amount of fish! Almost all of them came in super close to the bank, the trick of the day was just to swing the bait out roughly 5-10ft.

The spot - got there a bit early so I was keeping a good looking fish in the retention sling you see off to the left for photos.

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
And here he is! A beautiful greenish Ghost Carp. Some friends dubbed him "Zorro" due to his big black "mask"

[Linked Image]
Second fish of the day for me! Looked a bit rough around the edges

[Linked Image]
Chris with his first - a decent size Buffalo! For whatever reason he would go on to catch all the Buffs and I ended up with only Carp, even though we were fishing literally right next to each other!

[Linked Image]
Chris' wife Favi with her first Carp in some time

[Linked Image]
Another average sized Grapevine Carp. They were fighting like hell though!

[Linked Image]
Chris showing the cats some love, lol.

[Linked Image]
Slight Helix pattern Buff for Chris

[Linked Image]
Another for Favi! She was hammering the Bass and Sunfish as well with an ultralight.

[Linked Image]
And another! She's getting just as addicted as Chris and I, a full Carp setup is in her future fish

[Linked Image]
Normally I release all the little guys without photos but I've been feeling generous as of late! Typically I'll just unhook them in the water just like I was doing here and then let 'em go.

[Linked Image]
Great eating sized Blue!

[Linked Image]
Gorgeous Buffalo! Grapevine is known for having both really pristine Buffalo and really Helix'd Buffalo. An interesting combination!

[Linked Image]
I told you guys he was on the Buffs! They must be drawn to guys named Chris... grin

[Linked Image]
First Common of the day for Chris!

[Linked Image]
And another right after!

[Linked Image]
Gorgeous Carp which was the biggest of the day at the time. 12lb 8oz.

[Linked Image]
Chris with another Buff!

[Linked Image]
Chris' 3rd Carp of the day

[Linked Image]
Long, lean Carp which was the biggest of the day for us at 15 and a half pounds

[Linked Image]
Recreating a bit of TFF history here with this pose! If they don't put that dorsal up for you you've got to get it up yourself!

[Linked Image]
And finally the last one of the day, a bit deformed but otherwise healthy.

That looks like a very nice day. It is interesting to me how you get local variations in the fish. It looks like several of those fish had a hint of the black mask. In one area I fish, about every 10th fish has a white nose. Love those carp and buffalo.

There definitely seem to be different strains of Carp and Buffalo depending upon where you're fishing. I've seen variations in size (of course), color, shape, and even strength! It'd be cool to see if there are any genetic differences that cause those traits.

Very cool! I have had good luck fishing those marinas in winter for some nice buffs as well.

They are light biters! Can be tricky to stick them but looks like yall got it down.
