New to TX (and TFF), first time fishing LB last weekend. I must admit, after reading all the hype on the carp fishery, I had set myself high expectations. Fished from 7-11am and then from 4-8pm without a run. Fished corn on a hair-rig with strawberry pack-bait on 3 rods the whole time and threw out a lot of it during both sessions. Fished shallow to deep and put on fresh bait every 30-45 mins. After blanking on Saturday I decided to walk a mile of shoreline on Sunday between LBL and Barton Springs just to see if I saw any of the legendary giants swimming around. Although I saw plenty of bluegill and a handful of bass, I never saw one carp (grass, common or otherwise) the entire weekend. We had a great time in Austin (live in Houston) and will definitely be back.

Anyone got any insight on the carp fishing on LBL they are willing to share?

TIA

Lady Bird can be tough! I and many others blanked there two days in a row during the Austin Team Championship this year. Only fished it once so I can't speak too much on where and how to fish it. What I can say is that if you stick with it it'll definitely pay off! There are some giants there fish

Thanks for the replies - I'll definitely try it again next time I visit Austin. The good/bad news with Austin is there are alot of other things to do their besides fishing. Once I finish up all the touristy stuff, I'll be more apt to sweat it out for an entire weekend. That said.... 5hrs of driving to fish 8 hours without a bite will put a hurt on ya.

TXMulti-Species, Glad it's been tough for the folks who know what they're doing too. I had myself believing LBL was going to have the fish keeping me busy all day.

Instead I got served another meal of Humble Pie! grin

Sidenote - If you're in Austin and want a good burger. I highly recommend Casino El Camino. The place is a bit "unique" for aesthetics, but a great burger!

Fishing has been weird this summer. I have fished some of my normal spots several days in a row without a nibble. Very unusual. The fish are there but with all the flooding food may be more available then normal resulting in fat happy fish not interested in looking for bait lol.

Fish at night, fish in 12' of water with deep water close and recast every 45 minutes.

Aw man! That blows. If you're finding it tough to catch at LBL pack it up and head to a different lake. Those trophy Carp waters are BRUTAL! Just got back from a 3 day trip with my dad at one, I was the only one that caught one Carp and a horde of Channel and Bullhead Catfish. He caught nothing but a turtle... shocked

Maybe try Lake Travis or Lake Austin?

If you're trying to stick around the Highland Lakes, Buchanan and Inxs have a healthy population of large carp.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm done with the carp at LBL. Next time I fish it will be from a yak for green fish. 👍

I did a search on nearby lakes before leaving Austin and decided to try Walter E. Long reservoir on our last day. We fished it for 6 hours without a bite, nor did we see any of the other 4-5 bank fisherman catch a fish. There was a bass tournament going on, so maybe that had something to do with it.

I need a good day soon. I'm traveling to Dallas this week. I'll see if I can keep my streak alive 🤦‍♂️
