Crappie Anglers of Texas held the annual State Championship today on Lake Fork. This is normally a two day event, but with the forecast for Friday, the first day was postponed for safety precautions. When competitors woke Friday, they were greeted with 25-30 mph north winds, 46 degree temps and rollers about 3-4 ft high on the lake. Not to mention the lightning peppering the area most of the morning. I was glad my boat was on the trailer.

Saturday morning was a much better day with north winds at 7-9 mph but a brisk 39 degrees. The morning ride to the first stop was refreshing. The wind slowly changed to NE then East as the day progressed and began to lay which made conditions much better.

There were 22 teams in DIV I and 21 teams in DIV II. Both divisions posed some very impressive weights.

The water temps had dropped 9 degrees to 68.2 on my HB but the fish stayed put and were willing to bite. You had to put the jig close to their hiding spot. Fish were scattered everywhere before the front in depths from 6-20 FOW.
Jig color didn't really matter today as a large selection of colors were used and all seemed to work well. Plenty of big fish were hoisted aboard today with lots of 2+ lb fish weighed in and more 2+ lbers that didn't get weighed once the bigger fish were posted. Congrats to all those that fished and to the winners in each division for heavy stringers and big fish.

Here's the leader board DIV II

Jim, when I hooked that big fish, it didn't feel that big and I told Jacky that I'd 'boat flip' it....until I saw it and told him that yeah, you better get the net.

And Livescope is a "gotta have" in tournaments now

Thanks Banger. We did it old school, no live scope.
