don't they eat guinea pigs there? Have her bring you back some. That's on my list of things to eat in Cusco. I'll post pics of that next week. Whats the deal with cell phones down there? I assume the calling wont work or texting but data like WhatsApp will work fine?

Yeah, I can use WhatsApp as long as I'm connected to wifi.
She can probably pay for an international plan for the days she's here, but it ain't cheap.

You can do a short-term international calling access with your carrier. I did that when I went to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. It wasn't that pricey. She may also want some international travelers health insurance, also not too expensive.

Would love to go to Peru
Asked my kiddos if they wanted to go, but the limited WiFi on Machu Picchu was a deal breaker for them
*sherpas have higher red blood cell counts

Thanks Doc! ha ha Thats what I meant. They do good a high altitudes...genetically pre disposed to living in thinner air and what not.

I hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu. Is she hiking the trail or just taking the bus to Machu Pichu? Very different trips and very different pieces of advice.
We flew to Lima and then to Cuzco. We were told not to leave the airport in Lima because it’s dangerous. If she is going there with natives, I’m sure she will be fine.
Peru isn’t the safest place in the world, but Cuzco is kept pretty safe. There are lots of things she can bring back for you, but I’d ask for a blanket made of alpaca wool, although they’re expensive).
Food in Cuzco is very good. I ate llama and guinea pig. Neither was bad.
