Fished Fayette today with friend Lloyd from daybreak til 2:00 pm. Water temp 85-88 degrees & level down about 8 inches. The story today was fish kill. The 1st spot we tried had hundreds of fish gasping for air...bluegill, bass, shad & tilapia. Caught "0" bluegill there, but hooked 2 huge tilapia. Moved all over the lake & saw dead fish everywhere. Mostly shad, bass, and bluegill floating everywhere. Not sure if the lake dropping 8 inches or the weather change had anything to do with it, or it's just a process lakes go through from time to time. Anyway, we still caught fish...ended up with 72 between the 2 of us all caught on gulp alive minnows. Bluegills are moving out from the reedbeds to deeper water. Most caught in the 4-8 ft range. Had a nice chat with Bob from Katy that was looking for some bluegill pointers. All fish released to fight another day...if they survive.

Despite the fish kills Fayette keeps on turning out SUPER fish. Great post Steve and a super job guys!



Side Note: I Would not think the front had anything to do with the kill off. Maybe the sudden dropping of the lake level was one of the factors. Just my two cents.

Nice post and fish. Good job. Hate the news of the fish kill! Hopefully it's a natural cause and not an environmental cause.



Side Note: I fished Fayette at least twice a year over the past five years and have never seen personally a fish kill!

As always nice fish a nice report. Love seeing those Fayette catches.


Side Note: Good possibility either an algae bloom or a lake turn over caused the fish kill!

Golly....Hey J-Moe, we're missing a golden opportunity to set more records on Fayette. Other method records are there for the taking. Do you still Have your cast net, spear, maybe a snagging stick. Don't forget your Camera.

I never miss a great opportunity. I submitted an application for a State Record Other Methods(Pole and Line) Hybrid Sunfish on Fayette, 6/9/19.

I personally like the snagging stick and kayak best. I can cover more ground that way. I bet Chuck's out there wading in the reeds right now Funny stuff Catyakker
