I’ve got a long uphill driveway into my property. It’s a beating trying to keep it from washing out. I’ve been quoted 2.66 a sf. Is this reasonable?

My research shows yes, good price.

Hard to say because I don't know the condition of your current drive and what needs to be done to prep the site for paving. Also, if this is a really small job, they tend to be more expensive because you lack economy of scales.

I can say that $115,869 per acre (43,560SF x $2.66) is the top of what I see on "from scratch" commercial heavy-duty paving project (for tractor trailer activity). So, if this is a good baseline, $2.66 for a residential application seems high to me.

I'd ask them to quote linear foot...

Not sure what the cost should be, but it will still erode along the edges of the asphalt unless some shaping is done.

This and the base material must be packed and leveled before the asphalt goes down. If you have low spots, make sure they install culverts or otherwise the asphalt will be gone after the first big rain.

Do concrete and be done with it, even if you need to stretch it out over time.

Proper drainage is key, even with asphalt. Spend a little extra on site prep.
